This course provides an overview of political parties and elections in the United States. We will explore the origins and evolution of political parties; the rules, structures, and processes of the electoral system; the campaign strategies of candidates and parties, the impact of interest groups, campaign finance, and the media on elections, and the behavior and participation of voters. Moreover, we will examine the role of parties and election processes at the national, state, and local level. Students should leave this class with a comprehensive understanding of how parties and elections shape political participation and policy outcomes.
