This course is designed to introduce students to major historical figures and facilitate an appreciation of changes in Psychology over time. This course attempts to highlight the discipline of psychology within historical and cultural context, with special attention paid to the contributions of women and people of color, who are often overlooked in psychology’s origin stories. This course will cover many of the “major” mainstream figures and theories featured in many psychology textbooks, but this version of this course will also facilitate discussions of critical social issues in the history of the field (e.g., eugenics, racism, and sexism).
