This course examines an array of issues, case studies, and cultural productions drawn from a broadly conceived “Asia,” which includes East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Southwest Asia (otherwise called the “Middle East”). Moving away from a discrete notion of culture and a chronological progression, the class will follow a thematic organization that brings together historical, cultural, and political conditions that impact different parts of Asia.
For this assignment, students will create or add to Wikipedia pages about novels by authors from Asia or the Middle East.
