Wikipedia as a model environment for information creation, valuation, and dissemination; Students will undertake the full training offered by Wikipedia, and contribute to articles, following best practices of Wikipedians. Primary focus will be on improving existing articles. I expect very few, if any, to begin articles. My emphasis is for them to understand the community interactions in Wikipedia. Students completing this course (i.e., the SLO's) will be able to:

  1. Determine appropriate information sources for a specific information need
  2. Effectively access appropriate information sources
  3. Critically evaluate found information sources in context of specific information need
  4. Effectively use information sources both in and outside the classroom
  5. Understand and apply information ethics appropriately in context of situation

This course fulfills the 3 required units of General Education Area E (Life Long Learning).

Create a presentation using Google Slides. The content must address the prompts in the "In-class presentation" information, though these will be made available via BlackBoard, since this is an asynchronous course. These presentations will be linked from your Wikipedia Blog

Briefly describe your work in Wikipedia and provide a link to your Google Slides presentation, in which you provide a fuller description guided by the prompts in the In-class presentation link above.

Week 15

Write a comment in another student's Bb Wikipedia Blog entry 13 providing a constructive comment about their Google Slide presentation. In your own Wikipedia Blog entry 14 put the name of the student whose work you commented on in their Blog post 13. For additional credit, add a farewell comment to all of us in this course in your own Blog entry 14.

Everyone should have finished all of the work they'll do on Wikipedia, and be ready for grading. The rest of the course consists of your Self-Evaluation*, completion of the Survey of Student Learning Experience* and your Post-Course Survey*.
