WRI 101 focuses on invention, analysis, critical thinking and the rhetorical situation. It introduces analytic and introductory argument essays; quotation, paraphrase and summary; and the basics of a clear, effective and varied academic style. The Wikipedia assignment is part of Analysis Essay 1 which develops students’ conceptualization of rhetorical modes. Students will work in groups of 3 or 4 to edit a Wikipedia article of their choice (a stub or other underdeveloped article) with each group member adding a source. This will be followed up with an analytical assignment: students will compare the rhetorical situation of the Wikipedia article to the rhetorical situation of the writing they usually do for their courses and an AI generated argumentative research essay.
