New anti-stub initiative edit

A discussion recently arose on IRC regarding the number of stubs in the project. We agreed that to assist in setting focus in the coming year the project should make a "New Year's resolution" of a kind. A goal to halve the number of stubs was proposed, and while ambitious, we felt this seemed to be a good target, but to make it more impressive, it was rounded off to reducing the stub count by 3,000 by December 31, 2010.

The current stub count, as of Dec 2, is 5967. Our target is 2967.

How you can help:

  • Upgrade a stub today! Unless you work in Michigan your project has at least one stub. You don't have to upgrade it all the way to B (though this is preferred, of course).
  • Work on a state with a lot of stubs. Florida has 417 stubs, the most of any state—if it were cleared out we would be one-seventh of the way there. This often helps a state that has nobody covering it at this time.
  • Sweep your state. Look for stubs that have been upgraded and never submitted for reassessment.
  • Find stubs that shouldn't exist. Look for articles that should be merged or deleted.
  • Don't write new stubs! Put that effort into upgrading our existing articles.

In the coming months we will update you on how this initiative is progressing here on the blog. Let's all get out there and improve those articles!

I wish USRD only the best of luck in getting rid of unsightly stubs, and perhaps making articles more readable to the general populace. CL (T · C) — 04:00, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've been working on articles that merge some of the Suffolk County Road articles, but I'm on vacation right now, so I've been delayed in my work on that project. Thanks to the weather in the New York Tri-State area, this effort will be delayed a few more days. For the record, I have worked on Florida whenever I get the chance. ----DanTD (talk) 14:59, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I didn't even know this initiative was proposed. I noticed that there are a TON of stubs in Maryland's road articles alone, and as such I have been trying to work them down one by one. I've almost completed the first 100 Maryland routes so far. --Onore Baka Sama (talk) 16:49, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Updated FA locator map edit

FA stars not to scale –Juliancolton | Talk 17:33, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think this is missing one. I only see one star in Southern California, yet there are two FA's in this region, California State Route 78 and Ridge Route. Dave (talk) 19:01, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
