It's been more than two years since I tried to really develop a biography article, so, I could really use another set of eyes to ensure I'm doing this correctly. I discovered this story recently while doing Pacific War research and thought that it was a very interesting story. Any comments and critiques are greatly appreciated. Very good, overall, but a couple of minor things that need fixing:

In quotes, editorial comments (e.g. "sic") are normally given in square brackets, not parentheses. Is there some reason for the different usage here?
Extended quotes are sometimes cited at the end of the introductory statement and other times at the end of the quote itself; I'd suggest using a single style.
