Wikipedia:WikiProject Martial arts/Article Review/5th May 2010

Added May 5 edit

Comment. This article is about an aiming sight for tanks, so I believe this is out of scope for WPMA. Janggeom (talk) 00:08, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Agree-not part of WPMA Papaursa (talk) 03:09, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The category "Japanese Weapons" was in the category "Japanese Martial Arts". I have removed this category link. jmcw (talk) 10:17, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Unsure There are a lot of ghits, but I'm having trouble finding independent sources. It seems like he should be notable (if you believe what I've found written), but the lack of sourcing is a problem given Wikipedia's criteria. If someone can find a good independent source I'd vote keep. Papaursa (talk) 03:09, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Merge to Aikido, unless someone is able to expand it and demonstrate notability (for a stand-alone article). Janggeom (talk) 08:36, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Keep or merge to aikido The founder of this art, Minoru Hirai, is also tagged for notability. As I read some of the history of aikido on various websites his name comes up frequently. So I'm inclined to remove the notability tag from his article and let the art he founded remain as well. I'd love to hear from some people knowledgeable about aikido before taking action. Papaursa (talk) 03:09, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
AfD This strikes me as more of a trivia list. I'd be OK if it was merged into the Krav maga article. Papaursa (talk) 03:09, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
AfD He's an MMA fighter who hasn't fought in a year and only has a total of 7 fights. With just 7 minor fights over a 3 year carreer, there's no way he made a living from this and thus he fails the "fully professional" criterium of WP:ATH. He's the "current" champion of the defunct Palace Fighting Championship. Seeing how the AfD went on that topic, I suspect this might a tough sell at AfD. Papaursa (talk) 03:09, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Keep (improve). The subject appears to be notable. Janggeom (talk) 00:15, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
AfD as a martial artist, ? as an actor This BLP's only source is the subject's home page where he claims to have been a 3 time world champion by the time he was 8. I've requested sourcing at the article's talk page, but junior titles aren't considered notable and this likely would have been a very young age group title from an unspecified organization. Papaursa (talk) 03:09, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ridiculous as a martial artist Probably notable enough as an actor, however. Astudent0 (talk) 15:09, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
AfD. I have not found sources that support notability. Janggeom (talk) 00:12, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
AfD I couldn't find any evidence of notability that passes WP:GNG or WP:MANOTE. Papaursa (talk) 03:40, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Weak Keep His name appears in many places when I search, but I'm having a hard time finding a good independent reference. He seems to be well known in East Coast tai chi circles (at least). Papaursa (talk) 03:40, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
AfD Can't find any indication he passes WP:MANOTE. Astudent0 (talk) 15:09, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree I can't show he meets WP:MANOTE via reliable sources. Perhaps I was just feeling generous that day. Papaursa (talk) 18:28, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Keep Why would we consider deleting someone's sandbox? Papaursa (talk) 03:40, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Comment. Looks like there's a problem with the cat tool (e.g., see "Korean Commander's Panoramic Sight" above; the article doesn't even have a WPMA banner on its talk page), or perhaps the selection criteria need to be tweaked. Janggeom (talk) 08:39, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Upon checking further, the page has some category tags on it, which is probably why the tool is picking it up. It's probably not worth worrying about at this point. Janggeom (talk) 08:42, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Weak Keep The claims in the article are a bit weak, but she seems known in aikido circles and has written a published book on her art. Papaursa (talk) 03:40, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Added in-line reference and removed tag. jmcw (talk) 10:40, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
AfD Article lacks any real claim of notability and has no independent sources. Appears to be a minor-league/local wrestler. Papaursa (talk) 03:40, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
AfD Minor wrestler without real notability. Astudent0 (talk) 15:09, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Question Can an amateur MMA organization be notable? Papaursa (talk) 03:40, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
AfD Can find no independent sources on this martial art. Papaursa (talk) 03:40, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
AfD Article would need a huge clean up & few sources, the links seem to be to the same blob of text so may be a copy-vio --Natet/c 12:13, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Weak AfD I can't find third party sources on him, but I know he's well known as a judge for several tournament circuits and in various martial arts circles. I'd vote keep if someone found an independent source. Papaursa (talk) 03:40, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
AfD can't see the sources to supprot the claimes and with that amy there should be some hits. --Natet/c 12:13, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Weak AfDKeep A pretty good resume--6 times on the podium at Italian national championships (plus 4 medals as an under-20). The problem is he has no placings at a European (best finish was 5th) or World championship--except in European age limited events. He's never competed at a world championship and his two World Cup placings are not sufficient for WP:ATH. His repeated placings at the Italian championships may be enough to make this a keep according to WP:MANOTE. Papaursa (talk) 03:11, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Weak Keep His notability as far as WP:MANOTE may be iffy, but there's a lot of articles about his giving seminars, etc. in Asia. The trouble is I'm having a hard time determining if the sources are independent. I'm siding with a weak keep since it's certainly not complete fluff. Papaursa (talk) 03:11, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
AfD Can't find any indication he passes WP:MANOTE. I do agree it's not complete fluff, but does that matter? Astudent0 (talk) 15:09, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Keep This is an organziation that gets a lot of mention in articles about Japanese kickboxing. It appears to be an active organization and people are proud to be its champions or trained by its champions. Again, not fluff. Papaursa (talk) 03:11, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
