A Modern cocktail is defined here as a cocktail which appeared after the end of Prohibition in the United States in 1934 and before 1990. This is distinct from a classic cocktail from before the end of Prohibition and a contemporary cocktail.

Lorraine

The Lorraine cocktail was created by Joe Gilmore, the Head Barman of the American Bar at the Savoy Hotel in London, to mark as state visit by French President Charles de Gaulle’s state to Britain after the Second World War. It contains gin, Lillet, and Grand Marnier, stirred and served over ice.
