Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Peer review/Joseph W. Tkach/Archive1

This started as a stub which got ripped apart by POV-oriented editors when I found it. I decided to write a complete article from scratch using the limited resources available. I am new to writing biographies and I would appreciate any advice on improving this article. RelHistBuff 11:47, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I liked very much reading this article! Well-written with a good flow and pleasant for the non-specialist reader. You made an article tell a story and that's the most important thing. These are the remarks I want to make:

  • You end the article like that: "Joseph Tkach Sr. passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 1995." Ok! ... But I would like to have some information about the aftermath. What happened then? What is the impact of his decisions nowadays? I think you should touch a bit upon this topic. And I believe that this will help you to find more resources to document the whole article.
  • In connection with the previous remark: I would like to have some assessments of Tkach's decisions and doctrine, not necessarily quoted but exposed with a certain clarity. What his opponents tell about him? What some prominent theologicians argue about his reforms? How are his son and his supporters defending him? What are the critics about the shrinking of his church? In a few words, an assessment, a more critical and analytical approach about the impact and the content of his doctrines seems to me necessary.
  • You use certain theological terms without further clarification. For instance, I quote: "He publicly declared that the Worldwide Church of God was a New Covenant church and was no longer bound by the terms of the Old Covenant". You link to the New Covenant, I go there, I read the first lines, but I'm still confused! I remembered what is the New and the Old Covenant, but what exactly is a Church of New or Old Covenant? For the Old Covenant there is not even a link (as fas as I saw). Some clarification of such theological terms is necessary. Very few words. Not something special.
  • You link trinitarian doctrine, but I go to a disambiguation page. Where do you want be exactly to go? Probably to Trinity, so link me sraight there!--Yannismarou 10:25, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent ideas on what this article needs. Thanks. RelHistBuff 20:14, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I hope I have satisfactorily implemented your suggestions. For your first two points, I added a new section titled Tkach's legacy adding items such as numbers showing the impact of the changes, opinions from both sides (critics and defenders), his son's apology (representing the church), and an obituary from a strong critic of Tkach. Criticism of what I added and any other suggestions are welcomed! RelHistBuff 15:09, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In terms of content, it looks nice to me now!--Yannismarou 09:36, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
