What is the AfC challenge? edit

Level From To Points
1 Stub Start 1
2 Start C 2
3 C B 3
4 B   GA 8
5   GA   A 10
6   A   FA 12
Bonus List   FL 8

The AfC challenge is a little competition to improve some Wikipedia articles and encourage AfC participants to work on the quality of some existing articles rather than mindlessly reviewing new submissions. It is open to anyone to join in, and we hope that everyone will!

The idea is to take a Stub-class article and bring it up to Start-class. That won't be difficult - take a look at the grading scheme to see what is required. Then, someone will give the article a quick review and you have completed level 1 of the AfC challenge.

Now you have a choice. You could choose a Start-class article and bring it up to C-class. You might like to choose the same article that you worked on before, or you could choose a different article. Or you might like to work on another stub. At each stage it's up to you which type of article you work on next. The higher classes take longer, but are worth more points (see the table)! We don't expect everyone to get to a Featured Article, but it would be nice to at least get a few more Good Articles. There will be barnstars and other awards for people who do well.

How do I participate? edit

Great! So you want to join in? It's easy.

  1. Choose a stub from Category:Stub-Class AFC articles that looks interesting. Make sure it's a proper stub (i.e. an article containing only a few sentences of text which is too short to provide encyclopedic coverage of a subject).
  2. Type your username in the box below to add your tracking table to this page. (You can add the title of your stub to the table before saving the page.)

  3. Consider watch-listing this page.
  4. Please add the parameter challenge=yes to the {{WPAFC}} template on the talkpage of each article you work on, to publicise the competition.
  5. Get started on your article! When you think your article is ready (check the grading scheme), change the status to Awaiting review. Then someone will come along and check it. (Note: You are encouraged to review other editor's submissions. Simply verify that the required improvements have taken place, mark the review "Completed", and assign points!)
  6. When the article has been assessed, the status can be marked Completed and your points will be awarded. Now you can get to work on the next level!
  7. Each level can be attempted at any time. The challenge will run for two months (until February 12, 2009).
  8. If you have any questions or suggestions, please use the talk page.

1 Stub Start Completed Archaeomeryx Well done, the sources are excellent. I wanted to assess it higher but the article is still quite short. Can you expand it a bit? Martin 22:27, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply] 1
