The Wiener Library for the Study of the Holocaust and Genocide on Russell Square in London, United Kingdom, is hosting a Wikipedian in residence from 1 March 2016 to 1 March 2017. The main responsibilities of the WIR will be to:

  • Teach the staff how to create and edit Wikipedia articles.
  • Conduct themed workshops to teach the library volunteers how to create and edit Wikipedia articles.
  • Teach one-on-one tutorials for members of the public, encourage them to join the library and edit Wikipedia articles by using the library collections.
  • Undertake research in the library special collections to add sources to relevant articles.
  • Upload pictures from the library special collections.

The first workshop took place in April 2016. Each attendee created a new account and edited articles related to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, to coincide with the start of the uprising on 19 April 1943.

The second workshop took place in July 2016. The theme was art--from so-called "degenerate art" to the Nazi plunder.

As of July 2016, roughly 50 one-on-one tutorials have been conducted.

In November 2016, I led the inaugural edit-a-thon at the Wiener Library. It was attended by 20 members of the public, from 10am to 5pm.
