About edit

Purpose Statement edit

To produce an Administration front page group project (bookshelf) that features all the tools and techniques on how to become a successful administrator, and how to further enhance administrator skills on Wikipedia.

Scope Statement edit

Our group will collectively work to create and produce a bookshelf project that not only provides tools to become a successful administrator on Wikipedia, but also further develop existing admins’ skill level and knowledge on being an integral part of the Wikipedia community. To start off, our bookshelf will most importantly familiarize new users and striving admins with the basics and foundations of Wikipedia: including the 5 pillars of Wikipedia, administrator and editor ethics, and other important policies. After ensuring that users want to engage with admin activities on the Wikipedia community is familiarized with its foundations and policies, we will attempt to provide easy-access tutorials on the basics of Wikipedia, such as: Editing a page, creating a page, and syntax/code usage. Those 3 tutorials should provide a strong foundation of abilities that every admin should possess.

Moving on to more advanced techniques and tools, admins, or users who wish to become admins, can learn other methods that help them become more familiar with the overall process of maintaining and creatively editing articles or pages. Discussion forums will be set up to ensure that users who encounter a problem can have a place to look for solutions, find helpful links, and speak to other administrators. We will be interviewing current Wikipedia Administrators so that we can use some of their experience and insight to help aspiring admins. We will have a section on the “bookshelf” that will include some of the content of our interviews as well as any advice the admins wish to provide. We will ensure that our “bookshelf” is, most importantly, user-friendly and accessible to all who wish to become an integral part in the growing Wikipedia community.

Available Resources edit

On this bookshelf you will find that there are four tabs in which content is stored.

These tabs have been labeled:

Main

Beginner

Advanced

Discussion

Right now you are viewing content on the Main tab, the Main tab serves as an introduction to the bookshelf and explains what resources are available.

On the Beginner tab you will find basic information about the founding principles of Wikipedia, some policies that apply to the site, and useful information about Wikipedia administrators. The Beginner tab is to serve as a resource for new Wikipedians who are interested in learning about the sites administrators and the RfA process.

The Advanced tab was created with current Wikipedia administrators in mind who wish to polish existing skills, or who wish to learn administrator techniques not related toward their area of expertise. Many of the resources on the Advanced section are already on other areas of the site, but links to these resources have been gathered and placed conveniently in one location.

On the Discussion tab both new and veteran Wikipedians will be able to collaborate and ask questions related to administrator activities or other important issues related to the site.
