NYC voting system

I have always wondered why New York, the most important U.S. city, never adopted punch cards as its voting system. Perhaps they did not inspire enough confidence? Thank you. 93.41.96.138 (talk) 12:47, 3 June 2023 (UTC)

New York switched to electronic vote counting only after the hanging chad debacle in Florida. At that point, punch cards were in utter disgrace. Prior to the Help America Vote Act (passed in 2002) and until the state completed compliance in 2010, the city used analog lever-action voting machines. I think that also the city's voting technology is selected by the state rather than the municipality. This article appears to discuss the topic a bit. -- Avocado (talk) 13:04, 3 June 2023 (UTC)

This map shows the US vote in 2004. The counties in yellow had mixed voting systems; which ones for accuracy? As the web site you cite says, it would be a mix of "Punch card, Optical Scan, Lever Machines, Electronic Machines, Paper Ballots." DOR (ex-HK) (talk) 18:00, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
