Hello,
Would someone kindly tell me the value of Y in following equation? Y + (50% of Y) = 25,000
Regards, —usernamekiran(talk) 03:56, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

my calculations say somewhere near 16,667. But I can't be sure. —usernamekiran(talk) 03:59, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  Please do your own homework.
Welcome to Wikipedia. Your question appears to be a homework question. I apologize if this is a misinterpretation, but it is our aim here not to do people's homework for them, but to merely aid them in doing it themselves. Letting someone else do your homework does not help you learn nearly as much as doing it yourself. Please attempt to solve the problem or answer the question yourself first. If you need help with a specific part of your homework, feel free to tell us where you are stuck and ask for help. If you need help grasping the concept of a problem, by all means let us know.--Jasper Deng (talk) 06:39, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Have confidence in your calculations. The answer is not an exact whole unit. Dbfirs 07:00, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Since you did the math, we can check your work for you. And yes, the answer is 16666 2/3. SinisterLefty (talk) 08:15, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Three halves of what you want is 25000, so you want two thirds of 25000. →2A00:23C6:AA05:6500:451C:348A:A734:F523 (talk) 11:29, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Jasper Deng, Dbfirs, SinisterLefty, and 2A00:23C6:AA05:6500:451C:348A:A734:F523: lol. This isn't homework. It's about air India's frequent flyer programme. A member gets promoted after getting 25,000 miles. And they can purchase miles only once, that too 50% of your balance miles  . But your help is appreciated a lot. Thank you folks  usernamekiran(talk) 13:15, 29 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe this can help you solve similar problems:
Y = 1Y, by definition
50% of Y = 50/100 × Y, by definition
Y + (50% of Y) = 1Y + 0.5Y = 1.5Y
If 1.5Y = 25000 then Y = 25000/1.5
