editError Messages in Access Don't Pop Up
editI am using Access to maintain various small databases on a Windows 11 desktop computer. The problem is that, when I try to enter data that violates one of the rules that I have defined, such as a duplicate value in an index, or a date in the future (because I have a rule validating that the date may not be in the future), it is no longer popping up an error message. In the past, I was getting error messages, which were sometimes system-supplied, such as duplicates, and sometimes the messages that I had coded. I think that an option has been set incorrectly. Is there an option that I can set and unset that is turning off the pop-up messages? Robert McClenon (talk) 19:58, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
- Windows has a tendency to show modal dialog boxes off screen. When you think a box SHOULD be visible, press Alt-Space to get the Window dialog (hopefully it appears). Select Move and then use the cursor keys to see if you can move the dialog box onto the visible screen. Also, reboot. You should do that first. Almost every problem in Windows is solved by simply turning off the computer and turning it back on again. 12.116.29.106 (talk) 11:28, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
- The system rebooted to pick up Windows 11 updates, and the boxes are now on the screen. They are not exactly "dialog" boxes, because the only response to press OK to dismiss the error, but we know what we mean. So is the conclusion that it wasn't suppressing the error messages, but trying to display them somewhere other than on my screen? Robert McClenon (talk) 03:49, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
- Have you ever connected a second monitor? (Just grasping at straws here.) MinorProphet (talk) 19:16, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
- That would cost money, that I don't consider to be a useful investment. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:02, 14 April 2023 (UTC)
