Can't open 'Word' files or application

Somehow, don't know why, 'Word' files or application can't be open, following restart. Couldn't open them neither from a given folder, nor a selected one by search. Other applications within 'Office' do open regularly. I'll be glad to know what happenned to it, and how to solve the problem & get back to work. בנצי (talk) 17:43, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Actually nothing. The small blue circle goes round for a second or two, with no yield - the file doesn't open. בנצי (talk) 06:57, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Right click on the Word icon on the start menu, select properties and copy the contents of the target field. Open cmd prompt, and paste in what you have copied, and press enter. You might see some useful error messages. --TrogWoolley (talk) 14:10, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see 'properties' upon right-clicking as you said (I'm using Win 10). There are only file names, remove etc, but no 'properties'. By the way, where's 'cmd prompt' ? בנצי (talk) 08:47, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Open a CMD prompt, change directory to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15" using "cd" command (or similar directory where Office executables are located), type "winword.exe" and press ENTER. Then report any messages that you see. Ruslik_Zero 20:26, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Which version of Word have you installed? Are you using Office 365 or an "offline" edition of Word? Have you verified it is correctly installed under your "Apps and Programs" control panel? Elizium23 (talk) 13:18, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

One way to open the command prompt is to click in the box in the lower left of your screen, which says "Type here to search". Type "command prompt". A black window will appear. You can type commands in this window. Jc3s5h (talk) 13:26, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You mean typing in the 'search box' I suppose. Yes. It shows a list of recent 'Word' files & the icon of 'Word' application as well, but clicking on any of them, opens none, as before (it isn't a problem with one specific file, but with all 'Word'-related). בנצי (talk) 09:39, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

When you say that Word was preinstalled then you mean that you have not paid for a license. MS Word and Office are not free applications. They require a license for continued use. You may use MS Word online, although it is a stripped-down version without full features. You may also go to the Microsoft Store and purchase a license for Word to use it locally. But there is no fully-licensed full-featured MS Word typically preinstalled with Windows 10, unless it was part of a software bundle which should have been specified during your OS or device purchase. Yes, it was purchased as part of a bundle, and installed by an authorized dealer. Don't rush into unsubstantiated conclusions just because of a wrong interpretation.
