Web Site for Technical Word Users

edit

I know that I have asked this before. Can someone please advise me as to a web site where I can get advice about Word that is a little more technical than most of the editors here can provide? When I restart Word, either because it crashed, or because my building lost power, or for any other reason, a lot of parameters get thrown away or reset. I lose any styles that I had defined (or I would have lost them, except that I have them saved in a document). I lose my AutoFormat as I Type options, so that Word tries to "help" me in ways that I want to be in control of, and I have to turn them off again. I know that I am using a desktop computer that I bought in 2017, and I don't want to buy a new computer. If anyone here can ask me a few questions and fix these problems, that would be great. But at this point I think I want a super user web site.

What about https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us? --Phil Holmes (talk) 07:35, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
https://wordmvp.com/ was quite useful, but I don't know whether it's up-to-date. (I used to use it with an older version of Word.) Possibly some of the links at https://wordmvp.com/AboutMVPs.htm might cover the current version of Word. Mitch Ames (talk) 07:53, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I remember mentioning superuser.com to you previously. I was inspired by the above mention of a Word-specific site to look for a Word-specific subreddit, and found that it exists and is active: r/MicrosoftWord/.  Card Zero  (talk) 12:10, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Where are Extreme Alerts saved?

edit

This is a question that maybe can be answered here.

My Android phone received an Extreme Alert yesterday, and buzzed loudly. My question is where are the Extreme Alerts saved? I am sure that I have found them before. Are they saved under Settings, or some other app, or what? The phone is a Samsung Galaxy A42, if that matters (or if it doesn't).

I just want to read the details of where it said the tornado was. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:57, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This picture of settings on a forum at Samsung.com shows an "Emergency alert history" option under:
Settings -> Notifications -> Advanced Settings -> wireless emergency alerts
which might also be present on your phone.  Card Zero  (talk) 18:57, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, User:Card Zero - I found it, as well as two Amber Alerts that I had previously seen. As I thought I remembered, it didn't give me much useful information because it said to Check Media, but the notice to Check Media was sufficient, and was what was needed. Locating Picture that was texted

edit

Here is another question that maybe can be answered. Someone sent me pictures via a text message yesterday. I would like to move or copy the pictures either to the Gallery or to somewhere else where I can then transfer them via a USB connection to my desktop computer. If I am viewing the incoming text message, how do I share the picture with myself or do whatever I need to grab or snarf or whatever the picture? If it were in an email, I would know what to do, so emailing the message to myself will work, for instance. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:02, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What mobile device do you use? Ruslik_Zero 20:54, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
See previous question (Samsung Galaxy A42).  Card Zero  (talk) 21:06, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you tap on the image, you should get the option to download or share. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 08:26, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
User:Ruslik0, User:Graeme Bartlett, User:Card Zero - Thank you. I found the option to download by diddling around, and it works as you said. I then downloaded it to VZMedia. What I really wanted to do (as I said) was to get it to my desktop computer to use the photo editor. I tried connecting my phone to my computer via a USB cord, and I can see most of the contents of the phone, but I can't find the VZMedia folder or whatever. I finally was able to get the pictures to my computer by sending emails to myself. That is a clunky way to do what I ought to be able to do with a connection. When I have downloaded the pictures, is there a way to view them from my desktop computer without sending them to myself? Robert McClenon (talk) 18:29, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If they are automatically archived into a cloud, you can view them from a desktop. Ruslik_Zero 19:30, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Some information here on the Verizon site about how to use the Verizon app to set your pictures free from the Verizon cloud. "Once the download is complete, the content will be in a newly created folder named Vault." If that's true, you should be able to see the "Vault" folder in your desktop computer's file browser after connecting the phone to the computer with the USB cable.  Card Zero  (talk) 20:07, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Or you can just download them from the cloud's website. Ruslik_Zero 20:02, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
