Place names project

Working in partnership with Cortney Dakin (Sâkihitowin Awâsis), a Phd student in Geography, we are preparing to add Wikidata for Indigenous language place names and the English translations to the info boxes in Wikipedia articles about local waterways.

To contribute to this project at GIS Day 2019:

  • Help gather coordinate data and other information for the project in this spreadsheet, which includes a READ ME tab with instructions.



London Historic Maps Collection

July 2 presentation slides: Adding map metadata to Wikidata

This project focuses on adding the London Historic Maps Collection and its corresponding metadata to Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata.

The collection has its own gallery on Wikimedia Commons that links to the collection on Scholarship@Western. All maps will also be listed in the Wikimedia Commons category, Maps of London, Ontario.
