Collaborations in Feminism and Technology Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

A collaborative event hosted by Barnard College Library, The New School, and the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research. This edit-a-thon will focus on the (gender gap) in Wikipedia through short lessons, discussion, and hands-on editing.

Event Details

  • Date: Friday, December 12th
  • Time: 6:00 - 9:00pm EDT.
  • Location: Face-to-face node held at Barnard college. Online participants will connect using a link provided after registration.
  • Event: An edit-a-thon! Participants will have the opportunity to edit and learn about Wikipedia, according to their interests. Facilitators will teach basic Wiki-editing practices so first timers can begin contributing if they wish.

Preparation

Preparation: Participants may wish to create an account, take a tutorial, and/or read up on Wikipedia before we meet. Resources will be linked below.

What to Bring

Participants should come ready to learn and contribute to the session. If you wish to work on a particular topic or article during the session, you may do prior research and bring a bibliography with you. You can also bring a laptop to use during the session, though we are meeting in a computer lab with plenty of machines to use.
