Join the MIT Libraries the week of August 17 -21 for the BIPOC Design Virtual Wikipedia Edit-a-thon and learn about the BIPOC in the Built Project, a collaborative effort between student researchers in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning and the Department of Architecture at MIT. Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) who have left their mark on the fields of art, architecture, art history, activism, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design and more connected to the built environment will be featured in this archive project and edited through out the week. After a short introduction held live via Zoom on August 17, stay for the kick off of our week-long virtual Wikipedia Edit-a-thon where attendees can participate in training and events that will build community around creating new and edit existing Wikipedia pages of BIPOC designers. Schedule
editIn this week-long virtual event participants will build community while creating new and edit existing Wikipedia pages of BIPOC designers whose work is connected to the built environment. After a short introduction held live via Zoom on Monday, August 17, 2020, stay for the kick-off of virtual Edit-a-thon where attendees will participate in training and begin editing Wikipedia pages of designers who have left their mark on the fields of art, architecture, art history, activism, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, and more.The Edit-a-thon will have synchronous and asynchronous components so participants can edit in person and at their convenience. Live editing will take place via Zoom and support will be available by Slack. Details to access trainings and Live Edit-a-thons will be sent to registered participants daily at 9am EST.
No prior experience editing Wikipedia is required. Join us at any of the events or follow along on our dashboard and edit at your leisure!

Track your participation
editWe will be using a Wikipedia Dashboard to easily track the edits made during this Edit-a-thon. By logging into the dashboard before you start editing, your edits will be automatically tracked, and we'll be able to collect statistics on the work we've done during this editing event.
- Go to BIPOC in the Built Dashboard.
- Under Actions, click Join Program.
- Enter the passcode we will provide you with your registration.
