Do we still want to meet this month, given that the edith-a-thon is being planned for 6 July?
I've got a couple of guest speakers in mind who I'd like to approach in relation to planning a program of regular monthly meetings for the rest of the year, and at this time it should still be possible to get one for a meeting on the evening of Wednesday 25 June.
Also, is the fourth Wednesday of the month a convenient time for all of us? It would be good to get some indication from likely attendees, so I can start to organise potential guest speakers. Cheers, Bahudhara (talk) 02:37, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

- Thanks for organising this. Yes, I think I can still make next week and the fourth Wednesday looks pretty good to me and my diary. I don't know Keryn Walshe, despite working in the same School, and I am very keen to hear the proposed topic of discussion. There is a an excellent paper on the City of Charles Sturt website, City of Charles Sturt, Kaurna Meyunna Cultural Mapping, A People’s Living Cultural Landscape (22 Mb) by Karl Winda Telfer, cultural custodian, and Gavin Malone, cultural geographer. - Gavin Malone has just emailed me to say that he might be coming. He writes;
- "We have just updated sections of the Charles Sturt website, in particular have added a section on Aboriginal Reserves under the Mikkawomma page. One of our tasks next financial year is to create an archive for CCS of all the information (newspapers, books, diaries etc) we have located which supports the web presence. - Glossy ibis - has no mention of significance to Indigenous Australians, esp. Tjilbruke
- Koala#Cultural significance - has a photo captioned "Aboriginal rock art depicting a koala", but there is no provenance given. The editor who uploaded it to Commons is French and now retired, and the list of the editor's contributions has several other Koala-related images, but one is from Flickr, and another from a German museum, so there's no indication that he ever even visited Australia.

After we explained the processes involved in, and perhaps over-dramatising the adversarial nature of, Wikipedia, our guests, Keryn Walshe and Gavin Malone, gave us a few thoughts about improving the coverage of local Aboriginal content.
She suggested that much of the content is presented as accepted fact when it is very much still in dispute.
Keryn suggested a standardised template for presenting information might help to ensure important issues are covered in all entries. She also suggested the use and inclusion of public domain information and stories such as can be found in Norman Tindale's work.
Gavin talked about the way traditions and culture are always in process. Gavin indicated that some of the content on South Australian Aboriginal matters is so problematic as to be worse than having nothing there. We have a lot of work to do!
Keryn pointed out the lack of archeological coverage in the suite of entries indicated, and suggested we might begin with important sites. Bahudhara asked about the appropriateness of discussing specific sites. Keryn suggested we don't need to give precise locations. Keryn indicated she is happy to look at a couple of articles to give feedback.
Bilby raised Wikipedia's history with the use of expert reviewers and whether this might be a way to have more success with the process.
If we build up one article to Featured Article status and then ask Keryn to read and comment, identifying gaps and problems, we might be able to develop a framework that can be replicated across other articles.
Bahudhara suggested we keep records of the process in the talk pages to develop best-practice methods to assist that development of framework and replication. Tullyis (talk) 04:03, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
