Details edit

At the 2018 ARLIS/NA Annual Conference in New York City, the Reference and Information Services Section noted an interest in learning to edit Wikipedia amongst members. Following the example of the Art and Feminism movement, we see Wikipedia as a critical source of information for today's information seekers, and want to harness our research skills in order to improve content. We also recognize that women are underrepresented, both as editors and in content, on Wikipedia and want to participate in closing this gender gap.

Possible topics for editing include:

  • Decorative arts and design
  • Linking to images in digital collections, or uploading Creative Commons/public domain images
  • Articles on librarians, celebrating the profession

Additions to articles include:

  • Authority control. This should be included at the foot of every biography: {{Authority control}}. It will remain hidden until relevant identifiers have been added to Wikidata.
  • Categories. Choose applicable. Categories including relevant subcategories of Category:Women.
  • If applicable, add a stub template at the foot of an article: {{stub}}.

Additions to article talk pages:

  • {{WikiProject Biography| }} or {{WikiProject Biography}}
  • {{WikiProject Women}} if born after 1950; or {{WikiProject Women's History}}: if born before 1950.
  • {{WikiProject Feminism}}
  • {{Image requested|people}}, if it needs a photograph
