Wikipedia:Latter Day Saint Collaboration of the fortnight

(Redirected from Wikipedia:LDSCOTF)

Every two to twelve weeks a Latter-day Saint Collaboration of the fortnight will be picked using this page. This is a specific Mormonism-related topic which initially either has no article, has only a basic stub-like page, or is in need of more information. The aim of this project is to improve the quality of Wikipedia's Mormonism articles through widespread cooperative editing. For a discussion on the correct format of Mormonism articles, please see WikiProject Latter-day Saint movement.

The project is also used to fill gaps in Wikipedia, to give users a focus, and to give us all something to be proud of. Any registered user can nominate an article and can vote for any number of the nominated articles. Every other Sunday, the votes are tallied, and the winner will be promoted for a week to potential contributors.

Voting

edit

Please vote for as many of the following candidates as you like. Please add only support votes. Opposing votes will not affect the result, as the winner is simply the one with the most support votes (see Approval voting).

Remember: Any registered user is encouraged to vote.

To enter your votes, simply edit the appropriate sections by just inserting a new line with "# ~~~~". This will add your username and a time stamp in a new numbered list item.

Tie-breakers

edit

In case of a tie, voting will be extended for 24 hours. If there is still a tie, the candidate that was nominated first wins.

Nominations

edit

New nominations can be made at any time and should be added at the end of this page. Please use the provided template.

If the article is selected as the LDS Collaboration of the fortnight, please add {{Current-LDSCOTF}} to the top of the article page. This expands to:

This is the current Latter Day Saint Collaboration of the fortnight! Please help to improve it to match the quality of an ideal Wikipedia article.

Considerations for nominations

edit
  • Giving reasons as to why an article should become the LDSCOTF may assist others in casting their vote.
  • Can the wider gaming community easily contribute to the article? Or is it something only a small number of people will know about?

Candidates for next fortnight

edit

Emma Smith is looking pretty good - The nominated articles since Emma Smith are below - Let the voting (and additional nominations begin). Voting to Close 3/8?

--- I think everyone agrees Emma is done. I'm suggesting that we work on Joseph F. Smith for the next two months. Please make nominations for articles we should do in August and afterwards below. --John Hamer 04:43, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I believe it would be a good idea to expand this file, but other than that, Id say full steam ahead.168.174.253.221 17:12, 21 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Comments:

  • Isaac Morley is an oft-overlooked early member of the Church. A confidante of both Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, Isaac was present at many of the seminal moments in early Church History.

Isaac Morley Sr. was spoken of, several times by name, by our Lord God Himself. The finger of God touched Isaac Morley in the Kirtland Temple. He sheltered Joseph Smith Jr. on his farm in Kirtland. Isaac also received blessings and ordinations from under the hands of Joseph Smith Jr., Hyram Smith and Brigham Young, to mention a few. The church preserves his personal items and his temple apron, possibly the first one used in Nauvoo, hangs in display in the Manti temple.

Comments:

  • This nomination should be kind of easy to understand, but for those who can't, let me explain:
  1. Founder and first leader of Latter-day Saint Movement, and thus is responsible for the entire thing, including all religions stemming from it.
  2. This article is coming close to Featured quality, but still needs the support and effort of this entire WikiProject to get it done.
  • BTW, in case anyone thinks about being POV on this one (I'm not accusing anyone), there are several non-LDS Wikipedians patrolling this article, and it wouldn't make it through a peer reivew, let alone a round of FAC.

Comments:

  • The topic of this article is significant in the history of the western movement of the Utah church. But the article is an in very poor condition. It has been tagged for clean up and contains a large portion that is probably a copyright violation. Available references include soldier's journals, web articles and a number of books of varying quality.
