and also Image:Ren2.JPG which is the same thing as another file.

Uploaded by Birktek (notify | contribs). The uploader claims this as PD-self but I question that. As it is inserted into the article on Irene bernik, an artist, I get the impression it's supposed to be one of the artist's works. Since the artist in question in that article died in 2000, obviously she didn't upload this picture. If it is a PD-self, that would imply the uploader is the creator of that sketch. If the uploader IS the creator of the sketch, it probably shouldn't be interested into the article since it isn't a representative likeness of the subject (i.e. a photo or professional portrait) but rather a crude sketch.- Metros232 19:31, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Metro 232 I took this photograph. Some of the most relevant art in the world may be defined at crude, are you the judge of thing s artistic and note worthy? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Birktek (talkcontribs) 20:05, 21 November 2006 [1]
    • What is important here is whether you took a picture of Irene's drawing, or whether you drew this. If you drew it, confirmation of that fact would be helpful in evaluating the image's ability to illustrate the article. If you took a photo of Irene's picture, then you don't have the right to release it to the public domain. BigNate37(T) 19:26, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Uploaded by Ldingley (notify | contribs). License claim is highly dubious. The user first uploaded the picture, tagging it to be in the public domain in Russia and gave the source of the picture: http://www.e-yliko.sch.gr. The licencse claim was obviously wrong, and the image was listed for deletion. Then, instead of adding the {{hangon}} tag, the user removed the {{db}} tag and changed the license to GFDL, which is highly suspicious given the user's initial attempt to license the image. Furthermore, a source for this allegedly GFDL work is not provided, and it is probably not in the public domain.—Óðinn 20:49, 21 November 2006 (UTC).[reply]
Images from bestanimations.com
edit

This nomination includes the following images:

These images are of unknown provenance. The source is listed as http://bestanimations.com/, but that website is not the creator of the work; it only states that the image was "found on the web" and "believed to be free to use". Several other images on that site are clearly copyright violations (e.g., [2]), so we cannot take much stock in their "belief" that the above-listed images are free to use. See also Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Dove-02-june.gif. —Psychonaut 00:03, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is the website I uploaded from [3]and this was the statement Best Animations is a collection of free animated gifs found on the web. Except where indicated with an asterisk all animated gifs are believed to be free to use. If an asterisk appears next to an animation then you must check the copyright restrictions posted on the site linked at the bottom of the page where the animation appears. Please notify the webmaster if you see a copyrighted animation that is not credited. No such asterisk appeared beside any image I uploaded. I believe they are free to use.--Dakota 00:23, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My uploads were Image:Explode-05-june.gif and Image:Smiley-animation.gif only. The others are not mine to make it clear.--Dakota 02:02, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I recieved a belated answer to an email I sent to the website owner and he wrote that there is no way to actually get copyright information. Given that response I have no objection to their deletion.--Dakota 20:59, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, mere belief isn't sufficient to establish the existence of a copyright license. We need confirmation from the copyright holder of the images that the images meet Wikipedia's copyright policies. A statement from a third party that they "found" the image on the web tells us nothing about the source and licensing terms of the image. —Psychonaut 00:30, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have now seen all the warnings on my images and I stand by my belief that they are free to use.--Dakota 01:11, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia maintains higher standards in verifying the creator of images than other websites such as the one you uploaded these from. Many of the animations on that site are made up from copyrighted video clips of cartoons and films therefore unless the website owner can be contented to verify the creator of these images they should be deleted.
