Projects delivered edit

Strategic Goal 1 edit

Increase the quality and quantity of coverage of subjects that are currently underrepresented on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects, with a particular focus on cultural content

Outcomes edit

I have prepared a one-page briefing on Commons for the Hillforts Study group. It has been tested by three researchers who uploaded a total of six images of their own as a test. Feedback from the researchers has made the instruction sheet more understandable, and it is available in editable form at wmuk:File:Sharing_images_of_hillfort_sites.odt I have set up a custom query on CatScan and PetScan to find new images added to the relevant categories.

Partnerships edit

A message has gone out to Humanities researchers (and some others) announcing my services and inviting them to make contact. I am now working through the responses by setting up in-person meetings.

I have met with:

  • The Hillforts Atlas project to discuss data-, image- and text-sharing.
  • The Biosharing project: interested in contributing text to Wikipedia and also data about life sciences databases for Wikidata.
  • A consultant running the Oxford Collections project, who recommended contacts in the University who have data about art and physical exhibits.
  • A researcher running the i.Sicily and Remodelling Roman Imperialism projects, which both have data to share and which come online in early 2017.
  • Ritual Modes (a new research project in Anthropology): interested in potentially sharing lay summaries of their field for Wikipedia, and in sharing open access media from their research
  • Oxford Research Archive have provided a preliminary dump of data about theses, for use in adding to Wikidata and linking from Wikipedia biographies

Initial email contact has been made with

  • The Archive of Performances of Greek and Roman Drama (APGRD)
  • Electronic Enlightenment
  • Cuneiform Digital Library Initiative
  • Early Modern Letters Online
  • Cabinet: Digital Transformation of Teaching through Objects
  • Oxford Centre for Buddhist Studies
  • Lexicon of Greek Personal Names
  • Power Structures in Ancient Ontologies / The Metaphysics of Entanglement In Nature and in the Divine
  • Cult of Saints

Strategic Goal 3 edit

To support the use of the Wikimedia projects as important tools for education and learning in the UK

Outcomes edit

Partnerships edit

At least three staff from the Technology Enhanced Learning team (TEL) have asked to take part in future train-the-trainers events, and TEL have have requested a guest blog post on Wikipedia education assignments.

In discussions with two of the potential projects, educational assignments have come up as ways to potentially improve Wikipedia in their subject.
