7th Month Outcomes:
  • The Anybody but Burns editathon saw several existing contributors who had not previously attended a Wikimedia event participating and signing up for the ScotWiki mailing list
  • A third Edinburgh Wikimeet is being planned for late February/early March; to try and garner more attendees we have sent messages around the OKFN Scotland mailing list and the ScotWiki mailing list requesting feedback for the day and time.
  • Stevie Benton represented WMUK and Gill Hamilton represented the NLS at the most recent Open Knowledge Foundation Edinburgh meetup on 22 January. The National Library of Scotland hosted this event, and Graeme Arnott, an instrumental Wikimedia volunteer in Scotland, was also present to speak about Open Badges.

Material for future digitisation edit

Objective: Explore adding digital resources such as digitised books, articles, photographs and posters to Wikimedia Commons; work with staff, including librarians and curators, to identify areas of Wikipedia and sister projects that could be enriched with resources and knowledge from the Library’s collections

7th Month Outcomes:
  • A proposal is being drafted for a trial release of the 2,300 images on the NLS's Flickr account onto a CC-0 or CC-BY-SA license and to upload them to Commons; these images would be supplemented with a selection of images from the NLS's digital galleries. This proposal will be considered by the Digital Access manager, the Library's IPR officer, and the Marketing and Enterprise officer before being submitted to the appropriate curators of the collections. The current aim is to release these images by April 2014; their impact would be studied with the intention of sharing that data with the committee currently reviewing the Library's Digital Open Access policy.
