Outreach edit
Objective: Delivery of 3+ public workshops for editors (i.e. edit-a-thons); help organise and host other Wikimedia related events for members of the public, Wikimedians, researchers and librarians such as workshops, Edit-athons, meetups, backstage pass tours
- 14th Month Outcomes:
- Helped to organise EduWiki 2014 with Toni Sant, arranged two social events around the conference for participants and those unable to attend but who are interested. Attendance for the social events was limited with numbers around 10 each evening, likely due to travel plans and the conflict with Hallowe'en (for local teachers)
- Liaised with University of Edinburgh staff to draft and submit a proposal for funds to run a week of edit-a-thon events in February 2015 as part of the University's Innovative Learning Week
- Attended British Library's second annual Labs Symposium and reported back to NLS senior management regarding specific projects and the Library's experience with making public domain content freely available online
- Organised a meeting of the British Library, National Library of Wales, and National Library of Scotland to discuss IPR, open access, and experiences with Wikimedia
- Resulting from this meeting, ongoing communications between the three libraries with respect to their Wikimedia collaborations and their open access policies have been established.
- Outlined two significant outreach projects for coming months: Gaelic language Wikipedia/Wikisource outreach, and a international symposium exploring IPR and digital access
- Gaelic language outreach would involve releasing hundreds of digitised texts in Gaelic or about Gaelic language and culture to Wikimedia Commons and liaising with Scottish educational institutions that have strong Gaelic education programmes to facilitate their transcription and possible translation on Wikisource
- Symposium would be an attempt to bring together representatives from GLAMs in the EU, UK, and potentially further abroad to discuss their different perspectives of and experiences with IPR, digital content, and facilitating access (open access or otherwise)
- Attended the Opening Educational Practices in Scotland (OEPS) advisory forum on 13th October, discussed the expansion of open education resources and processes into Scottish education at HE, FE levels as well as in schools and other educational programmes

Objective: Organise and host workshops for Library staff to explain how they can directly contribute their knowledge and expertise to develop Wikipedia articles; deliver 7+ workshops for National Library of Scotland staff and researchers or related institutions; develop infrastructure for sustainable partnership between NLS and WMUK after residency ends
- 14th Month Outcomes:
- Note: After some members of staff at the NLS raised concerns regarding the release of content onto a CC-0 license on a mass scale, uploads were put on hold to allow for internal conversations regarding the releasing of digital content onto open licenses. Internal events - workshops and seminars - are under way to encourage discussion and reach a consensus
- Met with NLS Chief Executive and National Librarian John Scally, along with colleagues Gill Hamilton and Fred Saunderson, to discuss organisation of internal seminars and an international event regarding access to digitised public domain content
- Met with Chair of the NLS Board, James Boyle regarding opening access to the Library's digitised collections and internal policies/guidelines regarding digital access and income generation

Objective: Help establish relationships with the Scottish Wikimedia community, editors and projects
- 14th Month Outcomes:
- A case study for the NLS uploads using the GWToolset is being drafted for release to the GLAM bookshelf and other platforms where Wikimedians will be able to access it and contribute feedback/improvements
- Met with Wikimedians involved in Wikisource regarding the planning and organisation of training sessions for editing Wikisource. The development of these sessions, with accompanying materials for distribution to GLAMs, GLAMWiki volunteers, and all Wikimedians, are underway
Material for future digitisation edit
Objective: Explore adding digital resources such as digitised books, articles, photographs and posters to Wikimedia Commons; work with staff, including librarians and curators, to identify areas of Wikipedia and sister projects that could be enriched with resources and knowledge from the Library’s collections
- 14th Month Outcomes:
- After some members of staff at the NLS raised concerns regarding the release of content onto a CC-0 license on a mass scale, uploads have put on hold for the time being. A request to release WWI images from the collection of Field Marshal Haig in Autumn 2014 due to time sensitivity (100th anniversary commemorations, an NLS exhibition, Remembrance Day, etc) was denied, and conversations regarding the Library's implementation of the Metadata and Digital Content Licensing Policy (approved Spring 2014) are ongoing
- Once the Library has reached an internal consensus and uploading resumes, the schedule outlined in earlier reports will generally be followed. This content will include:
- Hutton Drawings - 500 drawings, maps, plans and prints relating mainly to Scottish churches and other ecclesiastical buildings. A few depict castles or other secular dwellings)
- The Gutenberg Bible, NLS copy - Material to be released will certainly include the 'additional images' of the NLS's copy of the Gutenberg Bible, containing special shots taken to record watermarks, red printing and other special features
- Hopkinson Verdi collection - An internationally renowned collection of scores and libretti of the works of Giuseppe Verdi, featuring concert programmes, newspaper cuttings, photographs and stamps as well as sheet music, totalling 2750 files in total
- Slezer's Scotland - 70 engraved views of Scotland from the 17th century by military engineer John Slezer
- Sonnets from the Portuguese (Elizabeth Barrett Browning), illustrated by Phoebe Anna Traquair - 44 sonnets by Barrett Browning beautifully illuminated by Phoebe Anna Traquair
- Photographs of the South Side of Edinburgh - 138 images from around Edinburgh, taken in the early 20th century
- Theatre Royal Edinburgh playbills - 240 playbills from Edinburgh's Theatre Royal during the 19th century
- The first Scottish Books collection - 220 images from the only known copies of nine of the earliest books printed in Scotland
- Aberdeen Breviary - Over 1500 images from the digitised Aberdeen Breviary, printed in Edinburgh in 1510 on Scotland’s first press.
