Wikipedia in Versailles: 24 hours for an article edit

24 hours...

During the partnership between Wikimedia projects and the Château de Versailles, I plan to put up some challenges to facilitate wikipedians' work on articles about the château. Today, I'm offering you a new challenge.

This challenge is global and fairly simple: to work on one article related to the palace and improve it as much as possible over the course of 24 hours. On a specified day I will indicate the selected article. In order to make participation easy for everyone, from everywhere in the world, the article will be selected for the availability of on-line resources or books that can be easily found in a majority of well-stocked libraries, in French and/or English. (We are lucky in this respect: the palace of Versailles has a great bibliography in the English language!)

The challenge will be shared by several people in the castle who are trained to contribute to Wikipedia. These specialists currently contribute (when they have time), and of course they will be notified so they can participate in the adventure. During this challenge, I'll also be there as a resource person.

This 24 hour challenge is a good way to promote the collaborative work and the characteristic ability to synthesize which defines the Wikipedians. I hope this project will inspire you! Trizek here or on wpfr 10:09, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Project of a second challenge edit

The second challenge is much larger. Still based on the principle of 24 hours, or at least a big day, and inspired by the Hoxne challenge set during the British Museum residency, this challenge will be set in the domain of Versailles, where experienced Wikipedians and specialists in the castle will work together on an article. The objective at the end of this day will be more difficult: we want to make the best possible article and propose it to a labelling vote. This second challenge has been designed for French contributors, but it is possible to make another session for foreigners, if we have enough volunteers.

Update : the second challenge will be set on July 6th, at the Centre de recherche du château de Versailles [fr].
