Christchurch Art Gallery

The Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū is the public art gallery of Christchurch City, and one of New Zealand's most significant art collections. Funded by Christchurch City Council, it opened on 10 May 2003, replacing the 1932 Robert McDougall Art Gallery. From 11 February to 28 May 2023 it hosted the exhibition Ink on Paper: Aotearoa New Zealand Printmakers of the Modern Era, featuring 49 artists. The hardcover catalogue of the show is out of print, but has been made available as a free PDF download from the Gallery's website. For this reason, Ink on Paper was chosen as the focus of a Wikimedia project.

To do edit

Everything is Going to be Alright by Martin Creed
  • Improve Cass (painting) (especially with photographs)
  • Create a list of all New Zealand institutions with Rita Angus holdings, and collate their different copyright and licensing statements
  • Make sure every artist in Ink on Paper has a Wikidata item
  • Check Wikidata for each artist for completeness
  • Create a Wikidata item for the Ink on Paper exhibition, modelled on other famous exhibitions and checked against the Cradle template for exhibitions, including the list of artists below
  • (Maybe create an entity schema for exhibits, as there doesn't seem to be one?)
  • Where possible make the public-domain (in USA) work of each artist available in Wikimedia Commons
  • Create, with the assistance of volunteers, stubs for all the artists featured in Ink on Paper
  • Run a public meetup and edit-a-thon in the Art Gallery to further improve artist articles

The table of Ink on Paper artists has been temporarily relocated to the 18 May Edit-a-thon event page, for ease of participants
