Portal:Military of Greece edit

I've been working on this portal since December last year and it received a peer-review in January, which is here. Any suggestions are most welcome. Kyriakos 03:18, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • The list of portals (including FP stars) at the top looks bad, and draws attention away from the actual portal. Considering moving it? Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 03:45, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed the main list of portals but I have kept the Military portal list at the top as that is it's place in all Military based portals. Kyriakos 04:07, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I added the border. Kyriakos 05:12, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Support Nice looking portal. Given that one of the main purposes of a portal is to encourage contributions, I wonder whether the 'Things you can do' box might be relocated to the white space below the selected quotes box? I also thought the introduction needed a copyedit, which I went ahead and did. Feel free to revert if you don't think it an improvement. In its current form there are still a few issues...
The sentence "Around seventy years later most of Greece came under the sway and Phillip II of Macedon and his son Alexander the Great, who led his army of Greeks and Macedons and conquered the Persian Empire, reaching as far as India." doesn't make sense - there's something missing after the word sway (should it be "their sway", or "the sway of (something)". The sentence also has to many and's; I suspect that after the sway thing is sorted it might warrant a separate sentence at that point.
Does the Greek MOD also administer the navy and air force? If not, what does?
The Persians were defeated in 449BC, then 70 years later they appear to have been defeated again by Philip and Alexander. It just reads odd - any chance of making a distinction between these two events (I'm guessing that the first time they were defeated, the second time conquered - i.e. territory occupied)? --FactotEm 12:52, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I have worked on mos tof the above points. I reworded the sentence about Philip and Alexander the Great as well as clarifing the two events. And from what the Wikipedia article on the topic says, the Greek MOD runs the Navy, the Army and the Airforce. As for moving the things you can do box, I decided to leave it where it is as I don't want to mess up the arrangement that is currently there. Kyriakos 09:38, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough on the box move. One last copyedit - same caveat - and supporting. --FactotEm 10:00, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support but have a few minor comments:

**Selected picture should be enlarged (should be at least 300px).  **Related Content box at the bottom should be renamed as Related Portals.

OK, I have enlarged all the images to 300px and have moved Related Content to Related portals. Kyriakos 10:26, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose per criteria 5. Found fair-use image from selected images, also not enough selected images. OhanaUnitedTalk page 15:59, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • OK. I have expanded the number of selected images from 8 to 11. And would you care to tell my which is the fair use image. Thanks. Kyriakos 21:56, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have changed the image. Kyriakos 21:33, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose for the following -
  • I personally like the logos and such, and hopefully you can find something to replace them. The Greek flag was not fair use, and can be put back in if you wish. Joe I 04:34, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  •   DoneIntro-Does the army not have an abbreviation like the HN and HAF?
  •   DoneThe flag looks off center when compared to the logos.
  •   DoneSelected articles/bios/pics/quotes - A nominations page/section should be created for each selected section.
  •   DoneSelected articles/bios/pics/quotes - On the archive page, each selection should have a link as well, for easy editing access.
  • Comment. As far as I know, there are no portals with an edit button on the archive page. If there happen to be some with an edit button on the archive page could you please tell me. Kyriakos 21:48, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  •   DoneSelected articles/bios - The pics seem very small compared to summary length, tho this is a personal preference.
  •   DoneSelected articles - A few do not link the article in the first sentence, and a few(namely 1 and 2) seem devoid of links.
  •   DoneSelected bios - Please remove the thumbnails. The last three do not link to the person article.
  • Selected pics - Must have a credit/source caption. The other captions are either devoid or lacking in useful links.
  • Quotes - Please use the ((tl|cquote}} template. It's very efficient, has space for the quote and source. More quotes should be found.
  •   DoneThere seems to be a great discrepancy between the length of selected summaries. All selected article summaries should be roughly the same length, all the bios should be roughly the same length. This will help with page balancing.
  • OK. I have reduced the maximum size of the bios and articles to 15 lines, so the length of all the articles are roughly the same. Kyriakos 21:43, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  •   DoneThere is still one red link in the topics box.
  •   DoneWikiprojects should have it's own box.
  •   DoneFeatured content - I'm not a big fan of this box, but if you must have, please use space better. Make it three columns and/or reduce font size.
  •   DoneA Wikimedia box needs to be added along with {{portals}}
  •   DoneThe portal seems woefully lacking of modern Greek military content. Only one selection from WWII.Joe I 05:13, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ifthe army has a abbreviation I have not found it. Kyriakos 21:33, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
