Original – Saint Catherine's Monastery lies on the Sinai Peninsula, at the mouth of a gorge at the foot of Mount Sinai in the city of Saint Catherine in Egypt. The monastery is Orthodox and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Reason: A very encyclopedic image of one of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world.

Comment - Not very big on the ~~cacti~~ trees at the (viewer's) right edge of the frame. In thumbnail view they look clipped. Wouldn't the photographer have been able to go about 200 metres (660 ft) to the right for better framing? Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:32, 28 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
