Original – In the Turret - a BEP vignette depicting the interior of a gun/cannon turret in an early to mid-19th century naval vessel. The image was used on the right obverse of the $100 Interest Bearing Note during the early to mid 1860s.

Reason: High quality, high EV. Detailed depiction of the interior of a naval cannon turret (not previously illustrated in the article).

Comment — Looks as if it might have been intended to represent the turret of the USS Monitor, which contained two 11-inch Dahlgren guns — although other Civil War vessels also were armed with Dahlgrens — see USS Passaic (1862). The interest-bearing note was dated 1864; Monitor was lost at sea in 1862. Sca (talk) 21:36, 6 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
