Not sure: That filter tends to be quite accurate IP (although it has recently been modified) - what message were you trying to leave Dat GuyWiki? -- samtar whisper 14:53, 31 December 2015 (UTC)- Well one example is:
- Headline:Constructiveness of edit
- Content:I disagree. I feel it was a very constructive edit. If I had known sooner what was to happen, i would have told you sooner.
Hans
- Not false positive On further investigation, given this edit it is unlikely this was a false positive, and the filter is working as expected -- samtar whisper 14:57, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
- How exactly can an edit filter distinguish that edit from any other (in terms of language used/content analysis etc) and determine that the talk page edit was therefore not constructive? 86.185.106.112 (talk) 15:08, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
- It doesn't - but it makes me pretty sure that the IP wasn't innocently caught out by the filter, and that the filter in fact worked as designed -- samtar whisper 15:11, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah but that seems to be completely missing the point. This particular case may not be a false positive, but it highlights an over-enthusiastic filtering process that could just as easily have filtered legit edits. If this is the attitude towards filtering why not just lock every page? You'll certainly get no vandalism that way. 86.185.106.112 (talk) 18:11, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
I WANT TO APPEAL THE ABOVE RULING
No matter what the content of my earlier edits to earlier pages, lets say for the sake of argument that they were the vandaly-est vandal edits in the world (which I don't accept for avoidance of doubt). The edit filter can't know that, all it sees is someone politely appealing a "telling off" and prevents them from doing so. 86.131.23.154 (talk) 14:51, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
- I understand your concerns, honestly I do - why do you think this page exists? The edit filters do make mistakes, and do sometimes block good faith edits. Unfortunately I'm not an edit filter manager so I can't see exactly what would have triggered the filter - I do however know that by registering an account you may see an improvement -- samtar whisper 14:59, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
- I am not so much reporting it so that I can make my edit. I have other ways of acheiving that or something very similar. I am reporting it because there is a problem with the filter (presumably) and whoever does look after the filter (who I assume you know how to get in touch with?) may like to fix it. Oh and happy new year! Hans 86.131.23.154 (talk) 16:01, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
@Samtar: Please only let edit filter managers review these reports, especially those concerning non-public filters like this one. I agree this is a false positive, though I'm not familiar with why the filter was created in the first place. If you create an account, it would help though.--Jasper Deng (talk) 23:40, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
- Just noting that the IP posting this thread is engaging in block evasion and has been blocked accordingly. HighInBC 00:57, 3 January 2016 (UTC)

- I can give you a couple specific edits, but would much rather be unlocked (or "un-filtered"?) from the page, as i am not a vandal. Is this possible? 174.71.67.48 (talk) 21:17, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Diannaa: Notify. Viriditas (talk) 10:10, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
- Okay now I am confused, as the pages User talk:Petrarchan47 and User:Petrarchan47 are not protected at all. It looks to me like you should be able to edit them. The edit filter log says you were trying to blank the pages. Is that what you want to do? Or could you give specific instructions? -- Diannaa (talk) 12:42, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
- I was blocked twice from editing the pages; once I was trying to rearrange the blurbs at the top of my (Petra47) talk page, the second was an attempt to move the quotations from JusDaFax from my home page to my talk page. I'd rather the filter allow me to do this, as well as any future editing moves. I haven't tried to blank any page, so this is a false read from the filter. 174.71.67.48 (talk) 20:22, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
- Can you try doing the above logged in as your account (Petrarchan47)? -- samtar whisper 21:07, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
- I could but I have purposely locked myself out of the account to ensure the continuation of my retirement. I'd rather if the filter could be changed to allow me to mess around with these 2 pages freely. If that isn't possible, then i'll just give you a couple of specific edits, but obviously this is a suboptimal choice all around. 174.71.67.48 (talk) 05:24, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
- The reason why we'd much rather prefer that you login is that we cannot conclusively prove that you own the account.--Jasper Deng (talk) 06:11, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

The business created by the titular person is defunct as of his death in 1921. After Saving Page it would lead to a Captcha program to verify I am not a bot, due to the presence of links in the References. After entering the correct Captcha combination, it would again, warn against advertising, and thus the process repeats itself.

- Gamergate controversy (filter log)
- Description
- As one trying to learn more about this controversey, I believe the article was lacking a definition of the term "GamerGate". The article mentions the term many times without explaining just what it is. Instead, the article goes right into the description of the controversey itself. I have attempted to clarify the definition without changing the remainder of the article. My change is simply adding missing information to further understanding, not to steer the article towards one side or the other in the controversey. If my change is deemed unacceptable, I urge you to add your version of the basic definition of "GamerGate" to complete and clarify the article. Whoever does this- me or someone else- is not important to me; I only want the article to define the basic terms.

- Description
- In the page section 'Gold or yellow?', it states 'When the black–red–gold tricolour was adopted by the Weimar Republic as its flag, it was attacked by conservatives, monarchists, and the far right, who referred to the colours with spiteful nicknames such as Schwarz–Rot–Gelb (black–red–yellow), Schwarz–Rot–Senf (black–red–mustard) or even Schwarz–Rot–Scheiße (black–red–gold)', however, the German word 'scheiße' does not mean 'gold', but 'shit'. I attempted to correct this error and my edit attempt was flagged. Perhaps 'crap' would be less offensive, however, if the German word for 'shit' was used, then 'shit' is more accurate than 'crap'.

- Pennyhooks Project (filter log)
- Description
- I had a similar issue a few weeks ago. For full disclosure, I have included a link to my previous false positive report at the bottom.
I've been intending to go through the list of orphaned articles since 2008 and add PRODs to anything that seems to warrant it: if you take a quick look at the category, it's obvious that there's a lot of stuff there which is just taking up space. The article in question I intended to PROD because aside from having been orphaned for seven years, it seems to uncontroversially violate WP:PROMOTION and WP:NOTABLE.
As happened last time, I was forbidden from making the PROD by the edit filter. I suspect this has something to do with the fact that I'm an IP user making (or attempting to make) a bunch of PRODs, but honestly - I'm just trying to contribute to Wikipedia by cleaning up stuff that's just taking up server space, and I feel that the filter is making it unduly difficult for me to do so.
Here, for reference, is the complete text of the PROD I intended to add.
{{subst:proposed deletion|concern=This page has been an Orphan since 2008 and reads like a promotion; propose deletion per WP:NOTABLE and WP:PROMOTION}}
And here is my previous false positive report.

- @HowardUniversityGrad: Not a false positive. Wikipedia is meant to be an encyclopedia, not a review site. Your (alleged) bad experiences with the school do not belong in the article; article contents need to be verifiable by means of reliable sources, and this is especially true for negative or controversial claims. - Mike Rosoft (talk) 13:28, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

- @Jhoffmast: Looks like a false positive; the filter was objecting to the word "dick" in "Moby Dick". Try first adding it in two edits: first the heading, then the quote itself. - Mike Rosoft (talk) 13:33, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

- @NormanDKelley: A certain word used in your edit is commonly added by vandals. While your edit wasn't vandalising, however, the edit you were trying to make would have likely been reverted anyway. Leave the 'description' of the documentary out of your next edit and you'll be fine; it was unencyclopedically worded. Sam Walton (talk) 08:19, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

- @Mike Rosoft: It matches a string in the filter's first line, though I don't know if this is a false positive since it's a term rather likely to generate false positives. I've emailed the mailing list to see if I can find out why it was added. Sam Walton (talk) 08:39, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
