Wikipedia:Edit-a-thon/CRUK Improving Diversity Editathon

About the 2020 event

edit

This year we are taking our Edit-a-thon VIRTUAL on 16 September and expanding our remit to improve diversity of under-represented groups in science and technology across Wikipedia. We are working with other EDI Networks at CRUK to enhance representation of women, BIPOC, LGBTQIA and disabled scientists and technologists.

Complete beginners and experienced editors are both welcome to attend - we'll provide training for anyone new to editing. In order to get the most from this training please follow the joining instructions you will receive prior to the event.

If/when you feel an article is fit for publication, it is suggested that you create it as a Draft (see Articles for Creation). This will submit the article with "Draft:" in front of the name.

About the 2019 event

edit

The Cancer Research UK Wiki Edit-a-thon is an annual organised event, the first of which took place on 7 March 2019. It has been set up to celebrate and promote diversity in science, technology, engineering and maths, particularly in cancer research, in conjunction with International Women's Day.

This first event was part of Cancer Research UK Women’s Network activities for International Women’s Day 2019 – a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity under this year’s theme: #BalanceforBetter.

At Cancer Research UK, we value and embrace Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). Creating a diverse working culture where everyone can be themselves and reach their full potential is hugely important to us. We believe our differences make us stronger and more effective in our aim to beat cancer sooner.
