EATAW Edits Wikipedia

Join us online for the EATAW Edits Wikipedia workshop on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 15:00 - 16:00 CET. This introductory workshop will introduce EATAW members to Wikipedia, address some of the specific concerns experts may face and provide a space for active discussion about public scholarship on Wikipedia. Topics include investigating key policies and guidelines, addressing privacy concerns, exploring the anatomy of an article, considering different levels of involvement, and getting started with articles that need a lot of work.
The workshop will be hosted on Zoom by Savannah Cragin, the CCCC Wikipedian-in-Residence. This event is sponsored by the CCCC Wikipedia Initiative with funding from the Wikimedia Foundation.

Exercise: Edit a draft article edit

  1. Make a small edit to the draft article on SIG Writing. Consider contributing copyedits, citations, or external links.
  2. Add a few areas for improvement to the talk page of the article. Make sure to sign your name with four tildes (~~~~).

Exercise: Article exploration edit

Look up an article related to a course you are teaching in the fall. Consider these questions:

  • Is the information presented accurate and equitable? If not, what specific concepts, frameworks, or sections need to be revised?
  • Is there anything missing? What scholars and/or scholarship need to be added?
  • What will your students learn from the article?
