Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Burger King open letter

In response to Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard open letter, a different direction.

We, as editors on Wikipedia, strongly protest the actions of Burger King Corporation with respect to Wikipedia. It appears from news coverage and our own investigations that Burger King employees edited Wikipedia in violation of our policies, as part of an advertising campaign authorized by Burger King management.

These edits were quickly removed and actions taken to minimise the damage to Wikipedia. But nothing is free. Burger King have not only attempted to misuse the resources offered by Wikipedia, but have wasted our time by making these measures necessary.

Wikipedia belongs to the communities of volunteer editors who donate their time to make information freely available to the world. We view corporate actions such as these very dimly. And we hope and believe that members of the public will view this incident as we do, as a cynical attempt to promote Burger King products by deception and misappropriating the property of others.

We invite Burger King Corporation to respond publicly to this letter.
