Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce/Jute cultivation

This page appears to pertain mainly to India's jute cultivation practices, and also may need improvement in grammar and removal of spam.

On a related note, the article's primary contributors, User:202.125.64.11 and User:Pathikbd, appear to be affiliated with a company specializing in jute. Both users have made many edits, particularly in articles of the Category:Fibers. Many of the edits have been informative. However, some have been spam, and others were text that was copy/pasted into articles, without regard to context or redundancy within the article. I have not reviewed all of their edits yet, nor have warned them about their edits. Review the article's talk page for more information. --Uthbrian (talk) 08:41, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've looked through the article and reworded sections which could be considered POV, it definally came across to me that User:Pathikbd was promoting Bangladesh over other countries. I've also done a general re-organise, hopefully it is alot more readable. Grandwazir 21:03, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User:Pathikbd says: ' I was assigned as copywriter for my company, The Golden Fibre Trade Centre Limited (GFTCL). However, I have found that, there are not much articles about jute in the net world. This has driven me to make some artciles about jute and related fibers. Yes, I am responsible for most of the edits in the "Jute" and its related pages in Wikipedia. Moreover, I am the creator of the "Jute Cultivation" page. But, I find no harm in promoting jute and my country. Moreover, the Multilingual research is one of my struggling research effort. But, I made them availbale as free articles. I have even put some articles in Wikipedia that were in my website, as my company holds the copyright. This is very harmful for my company's own sites. Moreover, some people thought we copied them from wikipedia, which all the sites are doing. But, I believe in the peoples right to know. I think this is also the slogan of Wikipedia.

My ideal person is my Father, who was a chemist/pharmacist but gone for journalism for career amalgamation and now one of the highest paid science editor in Bangladesh. Therefore, in all perspective, I have respect for you both. If you have any suggestions for me, then I would be glad to accept them.

Previously, I have been directly referring our site. In recent edit, I have referred the page that relates to the resources for jute. If you have any problem with this, then please let me know. Moreover, I would like to mention my site as reference site, please let me know if I can.

Hi, no one is doubting that you have made very useful and informative contributions to Wikipedia on several articles. We need more people like you, who have actual first hand knowledge on what they are writing for Wikipedia to be able to produce great articles.
On the question of copy right because how Wikipedia is licenced editors can't copy from other websites wholesale unless they hold the copyright for it. If you don't hold the copyright just rewrite what it says in different words, that is usually enough :-). Although i'm not a lawyer so this isn't legal advice(tm) If you do want to use a quote from a website or a source make sure to put it in quote marks and reference it in the references section regardless of it your own the original copyright or not. This is other editors can verify the article. There is a good page about citing sources which you might like to read.
I didn't have any problem with you linking back to your company website because it does indeed have useful information however, the reason why I removed the links in some of the other articles on Jute was because the links appeared in the form of a user name in the middle of an article which looks out of place. Also could I suggest you link directly to the articles of interest on your companies website rather than to the the main page, this just lets people find the information faster.
The reason the article was tagged for POV was because parts of it read like it was supporting or promoting jute production particularly in Bangladesh. Wikipedia requires that we approach articles from a neutral point of view meaning we have to choose our words carefully. Although it may seem like there is no harm is promoting jute and Bangladesh in articles it does actually harm Wikipedia. Readers are becoming increasingly cynacic, we at least I am, and may dismiss infomation which seems to overtly promote one point of view which would be a shame considering the articles themselves are very informative. For example in the Jute Cultivation article I removed:
  • The Jat Area, popular for highest quality of jute fiber is located in Bangladesh. Therefore, Bangladesh can provide best quality jute fiber.
and replaced it with
Hopefully you can see that the first version is boardline promoting Bangladesh while the second one is states the facts without coming down too hard of either side. To the average person it is obvious that Bangladesh would be able to provide the best quality jute anyway without the need of the 2nd sentence. Grandwazir 13:13, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Grandwazir. Asif, your edits are very informative, and I don't mind links to your website as long as they are on-topic and informative.
Please feel free to close this cleanup request. --Uthbrian (talk) 02:00, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
