Automatic or Manually Assisted: Completely automatic
Programming Language(s): PHP (uses Curl and SxWiki framework)
Function Summary: Updates task list for Television WikiProject.
Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): Runs for about two hours every three days
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): N
Function Details: The bot scans the lead section of every page in Category:WikiProject Television articles. It checks for {{Peer review}}, {{FAC}}, {{FAR}}, {{FLC}}, {{FTC}}, and {{FLRC}}. It then generates a list of what it detected, separating each task (FAC, PR, etc.) using a sub-header. The bot then replaces all contents on the task page with its new generated task list. Note: The task page, if this bot is approved, will be transcluded onto Wikipedia:TV, replacing the manually-edited (and sometimes inaccurate) list currently on the page. Before making this request, I ran the bot on an extremely limited run (about twenty articles), and the results are on the task page.
Discussion
editI think User:Mathbot does something like this.
Anyway, you could also put the info on a subpage of the bot page, and transclude that page at the wikiproject. If you're only editing a bot subpage, and not doing a lot of edits (sounds like one edit every three days here), you don't really need a bot approval. If you want someone to look over the results, though, that's fine. Be aware that a lot of those templates have redirects, so you'll have to look for variations, like {{fac}} for {{FAC}}. Otherwise, I wonder about past precedent for bots with "WikiProject" in the botname. Gimmetrow 04:20, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- OK, I'll get to work on that. If it really does not need approval, then I guess this request can just be closed. — Parent5446 (t n e l) 11:54, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- I'd say just having something like ParentBot or Bot5446 etc. would be better—usernames such as this one seem to be more reserved for more "official" stuff (RedirectCleanupBot to take a random example). dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 12:07, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You would probably be better off using categories rather than tranclusions to do this work. Load up articles from the wikiproject category, and check for intersections with Category:Wikipedia featured article candidates, for instance. Gimmetrow 03:14, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- I see. Thanks. I'll check that out. Right now, I need to fix a corrupt PHP installation (not sure how it was corrupted, it was working fine for the past year). I also have to figure out why ereg_replace is not correctly substituting & with %26. — Parent5446 ☯ talk (message email) 11:59, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Withdrawn by operator. non-BAG close, bot account has been renamed and approval is unneeded. BJTalk 09:44, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
