Automatic or Manually Assisted: manual
Programming Language(s): AWB
Function Summary: Template replacement for Wikiproject Free software + AWB common fixes. See my main account contribs.
Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): one time run, about 1600 articles to check/replace
Edit rate requested: very irregular as manual, up to 6 edits per minute.

Function Details: Replace \{\{\s*Portal(par)?\s*\|\s*Free software\s*\}\} with {{portal|Free software|Floss logos.svg}} . I don't want to clutter Recent changes. I will be adding tasks for WPFS such as tagging discussions and assessment later, with approval here of course.
Discussion
editYou might want to make the image name something like Free software portal image.svg, and make that a redirect to the current image (at least, I believe that can be done.) That way, you won't have to do this again if you want to change the logo. — madman bum and angel 05:53, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Alas, image redirects are not possible. GracenotesT § 07:12, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- You're right about the naming, but as I can't make a redirect, should I copy it somewhere? -- Kl4m Talk Contrib 23:15, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, then, I'd just specify a generic image name and completely replace the image when you want a new one. — madman bum and angel 02:11, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm not too sure about using AWB common fixes. The bot should only perform the template replacement. ~ Wikihermit 17:55, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- A lot of bots also have "and/or general fixes", doing small jobs that arent normally big enough for individual edits. It's often the only way they get done :) Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 00:57, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- The bot shouldn't be changing a page just for general fixes. If the bot is editing the main page for the main task, sure, but if it's not, then those fixes shouldn't be made. ~ Wikihermit 02:27, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Understood. I will set it so it ignores pages in which it's just applying common fixes. -- Kl4m Talk Contrib 17:34, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Approved for trial (50 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. – No reason for this task request to be held up any longer. Carry on. — madman bum and angel 14:10, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
50 trial edits completed. I used this image : Image:Free_Software_Portal_Logo.svg for the logo. Waiting for approval. I will be checking/updating every page that links to Portal:Free software (about 1700). -- Kl4m Talk Contrib 02:06, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm ready to approve. A couple quick questions, though. I assume this problem was fixed. These edits also struck me as odd, but I assume that for some reason they were executed by the AWB general fixes subroutine. — madman bum and angel 05:39, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I see you look at the edits very carefully. I'll do non-trivial "fixes" (yes, even a cleanup tag) with my main account when this is out of trial. It'll slow me down but oh well. I wish there was a way to quickly edit out of AWB for that. The first two were a config mishap (replacement text is not a regex). It is fixed now. -- Kl4m Talk Contrib 04:23, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- That's my job. ;) And it's all right, as long as those last two edits weren't something you told your bot to do. General fixes are fine, as long as the bot has something to do on that page anyway. Approved. — madman bum and angel 19:05, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
