Summary: edit

I have included 2 short paragraphs on Porgy and Bess the Musical. Alexs talkbox feels that this is too much information for wiki users. So has deleted the information so all we have is one line on this historic event.

Being new to wiki my first attempt at writing this up the chapter of 'porgy and bess the musical' was a predominantly factual but somewhat bias and wordy account, when alexs letterbox deleted my entry and explained why, i went away, looked at the wiki 5 pillars and re wrote a totally unbiased bare bones account of Porgy and Bess the musical simply outlining the process and the main players involved. Alexs talkbox, went back again and deleted my new entry stating that this production only warranted one line.

I state my objection to this statement

Porgy and Bess is generally considered an Opera, altough there have been productions which made the show 'more like a musical', for the first time in more than 6 decades of the story of Porgy (starting from the novel) Porgy and Bess been made into an official stage musical. The Gershwin Estate themselves, know for being precious about the work of Porgy and Bess have after some years of negotiation and workshop, sanctioned this production and even allowed it to be declared as a 'World Premiere' not another version a slight take on the show but a' World Premiere' of a brand new version of Porgy and Bess. They have collaborated with one of the worlds most succesful theatre directors (3 time tony award winner Sir Trevor Nunn) and what some would argue is the best black talent in the west end (Tony award, evening standard, critic circle award etc winners) to create a remarkable new produciton. Remarkable for many reasons, namely the players involved but also because of the work between the Gershwin estate Trevor Nunn and Gareth Valentine to recreate this story which has gone from novel to play to opera to movie and now finally to Musical. What I'm trying to illustrate is that these attributes marks out this production as worthy some more indepth comment. Perhaps 4 paragraphs would do it justice, in the spirit of compromise I thought i could leave it at just 2, but anymore cutting down and i would wonder why anyone would go to wiki for information if the information is not there.

thank you

ps Alexs letter box also commented that the opera is not 4 hours long (as i said in my contribution) but three and a half, the time obviously varies on the production but it is a minor point which i am willing to concede for an appropriate amount of information on this chapter of Porgy and Bess.
