Wikipedia:1911 Encyclopedia topics/Categorised

Project completed

This a list of topics from the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica which do not have articles on Wikipedia, organised into categories. For an alphabetical list go here.

A complete ocr version is available here (Google searching the site is often more productive). There is another version here, which is more accurate but has problems with some browsers. Comparing them can help decipher garbled text. Being ocr, there are a lot of spelling errors etc., so do not copy and paste any text from this to Wikipedia without checking it thoroughly. Also remember that information in the EB 1911 is out of date, so may be wrong, especially on scientific topics and the names of cities. Many city articles already exist in Wikipedia, but are under different or accented names. The current names with proper accents can be found by searching Wikipedia and Google.

An easier resource for terms at the beginning of the alphabet involves going to PGDP, choosing a volume, going to the volume's "project comments", then choosing "Images, Pages Proofread, & Differences". Click on the various text links in the rightmost column (all labelled by file size), and find the term you're looking for. This text has been thoroughly proofread and can simply be copy-and-pasted. There is no need to delete the newlines or html code, Wikipedia will convert them properly automatically. This is most easily done using tabbed browsing, so that you don't have to go back and forth between the long list of entries.

Always add the {{1911}} tag to articles that contain text copied from the 1911 encyclopædia.
