Announced on 7 March 2024[1] as the women's section of Wigan Athletic F.C, the club has been registered with the Lancashire Football Association and is currently awaiting a league placement for the 2024/25 season.
In May 2024, the club hosted trials for new players[2] and announced that home games would be played at Edge Hall Road,[3] with the facility also being redeveloped alongside Wigan Warriors Women rugby league club as an 'elite training centre'.
