Managing a conflict of interest

edit

Hello, Zoek812. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page UJA-Federation of New York, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 06:17, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi there! Thank you for flagging -- I'm extremely passionate about Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation, and didn't even think to consider Conflict of Interest (I'm very much a new -- but passionate! -- editor.)
However, I do take seriously neutrality, accuracy, and information when editing. I was a history major, and studied (and tutored in) correct citation, source verification, and digital literacy in university, and the majority of my changes have been factual (i.e., updating current leadership when new board members were elected), uploading the logo through the correct guidelines, and highlighting notable past leadership. Going forward, I would like to continue contributing to this page, but through the proposed edits feature/COI noticeboard.
And finally, I will add my COI notice to my userpage!
Thank you again for flagging. Zoek812 (talk) 16:26, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Apologies -- just learned how to ping. @Classicwiki Zoek812 (talk) 16:30, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Zoek812, I could tell you have history background by your love of Chicago citations ;) . I am glad you have added a disclosure to your talk page. Your planned method of editing UJA-Federation of New York sounds good. My suggestion is to try the proposed edits feature on the article talk page first (using the correct template) and if you do not get any responses, then attempt the COI noticeboard. I will be adding a declared connection to the article's talk page. It is clear that other people with COI have edited this page before as well. If any other accounts (past and future) need to declare COI, I would encourage them to do so.
Paid editing is a serious problem on Wikipedia and I am glad you have responded with such willingness to follow the terms of use. I wish you happy editing, --Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 15:35, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Awesome, thanks so much for the response. Is it possible to review the page as is (including my edits) and remove the COI banner at the top of the page? Is that something I should talk to the COI board about? @Classicwiki Zoek812 (talk) 17:10, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Against my better judgement, I have removed the banner. I am still concerned with the contents of the page, but I do not have the time to untangle all the COI edits at this moment. Best, --Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 19:08, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I can highlight previous changes and ask the COI board to review them, but I appreciate your swift response and removing the banner! Zoek812 (talk) 15:01, 24 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
