Suspected sock puppet

edit

This user account has been blocked as a suspected sock puppet of User:Rick lay95, and would seem to have been set up in order to get around the block placed on User:Rick lay95's account. If this is not the case, please confirm on this page. CLW 11:46, 8 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

First of all, I am NOT rick_lay95. I am actually his friend. He told me about all the things going on here on this site and I decided to help him since he is still waiting for his ban to be uplifted. So basicly I am just doing what he would do if he were here. So I would appreciate it if I can go back to my editing and uploading photos.

I've requested a "check user" to confirm whether or not this is the case. CLW 11:53, 8 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

What does a "check user" entail? And how long is it going to take?

You can find out about "check user" here. I'm afraid I don't know how long it will take - I've asked for advice on whether or not your block should be lifted in the meantime. CLW 12:12, 8 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well do what you can. I really want to help him with this stuff.

As far as I'm concerned, User:Rick lay95 has been blocked for refusing to play by the rules so whether you're a friend carrying on his work while he's blocked or whether you're User:Rick lay95 himself using a different account, it still amounts to an attempt to get around a block. Unless another administrator decides to play it otherwise, I'll lift your block when User:Rick lay95's block expires. CLW 13:50, 8 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
What do I need to do to convince you? I just want to get on here and do
some editing. Can't this be lifted now? I tried logging out to edit
from my IP address, but that has been blocked too. Whats the deal? (related message e-mailed to User:CLW)

Well lifting my block when his is over makes no sense. I have done nothing wrong. If you think he has done something wrong, take it up with him, not me. I am just trying to help him out. And it defeats the point for me to be blocked and can't help him at all. Do you see the problem, I am being punished for something I never did. And just so you know, he didn't ask me, I volunteered to do it for him.

He didn't ask you to do it - you just so happened to have the articles he's been working on in your watchlist on the day you set up this account and therefore, without him asking, tracked down the same images relating to Power Rangers AND the Louisville Bulls and re-uploaded them? Without him asking you, you immediately picked up on the fact that Image:LouBull.gif had been deleted, and then re-uploaded this with the same file name? CLW 14:04, 8 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ha, I know what you are thinking. And you are wrong. He may not have asked me, but I have worked with him. I asked him where he got everything and fixed the problems that he didn't get to fix. So basicly I am being a good friend and getting all the info and stuff from him. And yes those pages are on my watch list so I can see if anyone is screwing with them. So can we stop this game so I can get to my work?

I'm sorry, but using such similar language to User:Rick lay95 only convinces me even further that you and he are one and the same person. You only started using Wikipedia a few hours ago, and have only carried out exactly the same types of edit as he has. By "getting all the info and stuff from him" and then doing it while he's blocked, you're just working around a block - a block that was put in place with very good reason. CLW 14:24, 8 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Geez, look what happens when I do a good deed. So your saying that you belive we are the same person? Well how many times do I have to tell you that you are wrong? You seem paranoid if you ask me. Just unblock me and let me resume my edits. Thats all I ask. Keep Rick blocked for as long as need. I seen what he did, and trust me, he don't know much about this stuff and tends to get in trouble with stuff like that. Despite the fact he does make valid points. So, what more do I need to do to convince you that we are two diffrent people? You want my liscens and proof of insurence?

Oh - I see that you both think "different" should be spelt "diffrent". Another coincidence? CLW 14:38, 8 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

LOL, you know what man, your alright. See we went to the same private school together. You know, our parents forced us there and prevent us from seeing girls for four years. So blame private catholic school education on our spelling. But like I said, you are paranoid.

---

Anyway, now User:Zeo6 has provided further evidence that he and User:Rick lay95 are one and the same person, I'll leave the block on this account in place and he can go back to editing from his User:Rick lay95 account once that block has expired. If any other admin disagrees with this decision, they can lift the block on this account as they see fit. CLW 14:59, 8 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ok now I am complety lost. This is unfair to me! I want a explination as to why you think we are the same person. And I want evidence, other than grammer.

  • Both users make the same spelling mistakes (both spell "different" as "diffrent", both spell "changing" as "changeing")
  • Both users talk about stopping "playing games"/"deleting stuff" and getting to work
  • Zeo6's contibutions are exclusively recreations of Rick lay95's edits. Zeo6 only started contributing to Wikipedia when Rick lay95 was blocked.
"Other than grammer (sic)"? The spelling is evidence. I'm sorry, but I very much doubt that this private Catholic school that both users supposedly attended taught all its pupils to spell "different" as "diffrent" and "changing" as "changeing"... CLW

Now thats just bull! I am not him? How manu F***IN times do I have to tell you? You won't take my word for one reason or another and now you won't let me do anything! This is wrong!

Unless anyone has extended the block on your other account, this should now have been lifted so you can sign back in as User:Rick lay95. CLW 13:27, 9 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

First of all I AM NOT RICK_LAY95! And second, you are blocking him from his computer because of his IP address, which I used to help him. You need to unblock his IP address.

Oh, right! So on top of all the coincidences, you were using his computer, too! Clear sock puppetry, in my opinion. If any other administrators disagree, they can lift the block. CLW 14:47, 9 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
One additional coincidence - although it's far from conclusive - is that both users' e-mail addresses are their Wikipedia account names followed by the same domain.

Unblocked

edit

So tell me, WHEN will I be unblocked? This is getting rather annyoing.

Look, Rick, your main account has been blocked, so your sock puppet account is therefore also blocked. CLW 09:11, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hmm... intresting theory. However, I am still not rick_lay95! How many times do I have to tell you before you all get it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zeo6 (talkcontribs) }

The facts are:

  • You use the same IP
  • You only replicate rick_lay95's edits
  • You make identical spelling errors
  • You use the same phrases
  • You only edit (or try to edit) when rick_lay95 is blocked

That's clear evidence of sock puppetry. CLW 10:28, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
