Welcome to Wikipedia!

edit

Dear Wmlschlotterer: Welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user talk (discussion) page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. A third option is to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator.

One last bit of advice: please sign any discussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD!   -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 15:18, 2 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Citing sources

edit

Hold on there partner!

RE: Your contributions to Harry S. Truman, please cite your sources properly.

Learning to format your references; add author if available, title, original source, date, publication, hosting site if applicable, etc.

How to cite sources:

Wikipedia:Citing sources and also Wikipedia:Citing sources/example style

SEE: Wikipedia:Guide to writing better articles (This is a good one!)

Please and thank you...~ WikiDon 08:08, 9 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Titles

edit

Book, album, movie, TV show, titles are Italicized not put quotes.

Proper names

edit

Peoples names, like David Halberstam, Republican, and Groucho Marx should almost NEVER be put in quotes.

I think I'll have to revert your entire edit until you can learn to do it properly.

Example Book

EXAMPLE.[1]

References

edit
  1. ^ Guarnere, William, with Edward Heffron and Robyn Post. Brothers in Battle, Best of Friends: Two WWII Paratroopers from the Original Band of Brothers Tell Their Story. New York, New York: Berkley Caliber. 2007. ISBN 0425217280

What is this!?

edit

What is with the parenthesis and quotation marks?

"William(Wild Bill) Guarnere(and Robyn Post)outlining"
"Guarnere,William("Wild Bill") Heffron, Edward("Babe")"

This looks...nasty. And you are inconsistent.

Should be:

"William "Wild Bill" Guarnere and Robyn Post providing the outline..."
"Guarnere, William and Edward Heffron with...:'

You do NOT need to use nicknames when referencing books.

I would like to recommend that you do a little homework before continuing on with your edits. Read the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. Bios need to have a similar look and feel to other bios. Please see:

Then I would like you to look at 20 bio's on here of major people, like Truman, Patton, Eisenhower, etc., popular ones. Look at the way they are formatted, and look at the layout. They need to be "Wikified" (Wikify) to look like the other articles. We want all the articles, and bio's, to have the same "look and feel", the same layout. This helps the reader. If articles are in 10 or 20 different formats, it frustrates the reader.

Carry on,

A little leg work now will go a long way down the road. Quality in > Quality out.

Edward "Babe" Heffron

edit

Go look at Edward "Babe" Heffron and look at the differences of the REFERENCES before the work I just did, and now. Now this article needs A LOT of work still, but just compare the REFs. ~ WikiDon 08:57, 9 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notice of csd a1 tag on your article: failure is not an option

edit

A tag has been placed on failure is not an option, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.
