Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Jamie Kane

In light of your comments in the discussion, I suggest revisiting the article and then revisiting the discussion. Uncle G 00:23:18, 2005-08-15 (UTC)

  • I know we've cleared this up now (the Jamie Kane thing) but just wanted to day brilliant work tracking the edits to the BBC. Soon as i work out how i'm giving you a 'barnstar'. Pydos 07:55, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

I award you this barnstar for your tireless work defending Wikipedia against those who would seek to abuse it and for tireless investigation of the Jamie Kane scandal

Madison Academic Magnet High School

I think there is almost a 100% chance that an article on a magnet high school would be kept. Although there is considerable controversy, of the several hundred school articles nominated for deletion in the last 6 months, not a single high school has been deleted. See User:GRider/Schoolwatch/Archive. However, I am going to move the article to one that at least names the school correctly. -- DS1953 talk 04:59, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Hi William. As you may or may not know, nominating ANY school is just about the most controversial thing you can do on WP. I won't lie to you, there is no general consensus on whether or not to delete school articles on the basis of either being a stub or being non-notable. All I can tell you, is that there is an overwhelming precedent that school articles are simply not deleted via the AfD process. The last successfully deleted verifiable, non-preschool school was deleted in April of 2005 (since then, approximately 300 school articles have been sent to AfD). Nominating another is not going to help - especially a high school. While there is no general consensus on schools, I can safely say that 95%+ of all high schools nominated for AfD are closed with an AfD result of "KEEP", the remaining 5% of high school articles aren't deleted either, but end with the more controversial "no consensus" result (ie. there is a plurality of opinion of what to do with it). For more of these results, please see Wikipedia:Watch/schoolwatch/Votes for deletion archive. The article in question, should be cleaned up rather then sent over to AfD (go ahead and tag it for cleanup and expansion if you like).--Nicodemus75 05:00, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Noted. I don't personally have an opinion; I was just cleaning up garbage edits. Since you're familiar with this, could you add some language to make this clearer, perhaps at the top of Wikipedia:WikiProject_Schools? Thanks, --William Pietri 21:02, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

You're right. I should have marked it as a school stub and added a category when I cleaned it up. I have done that now. -- DS1953 talk 21:11, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for your nice comment. It does feel good welcoming new users, and I'm amazed at how every minute new people are joining the community. The more the merrier and we want to start them out right, feeling at home! HGB 00:05, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

The blend

Thanks. I appreciate that. I was half expecting someone to get on my case about it, but I'm glad to see people still have respect for common sense. We'll see if it turns up at Deletion Review now. -R. fiend 22:18, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

School AfD analysis

This was a duplicated header and I can never resist recycling them.
WP -
Thanks for the offer. I'm a naff programmer in old-school languages, but haven't yet tried to learn anything webbish, so I was doing monkey work. What I need to do the digestion I'd is the raw text from relevant AfDs. My code takes a flat file and does a little smart hunting back and forth for [[User:s and the like.
I was thinking of taking each day's transcluded AfD page, doing a globabl replace of {{ -> {{subst:, then pasting that into a temporary page. Save, probably wait five minutes for the server to get up from its knees, then doing the same "click edit, copy/paste" trick as before. But that's still monkey work, eh?
On the school issue in general, I've go no strong feelings about schools per se. I really must applaud the effort that you've put in to smoothing the waters there. I'm just disturbed by the total lack of compromise and the incivilty. I've unfortunately contributed to that second one a time or two, but am constantly trying to improve myself. ^_^

Hi

I noticed a new or altered vandal template {test-n|Laissez-faire} today on User talk:212.103.187.114. I cannot determine if it has been altered by a vandal perhaps after you addded it. My French is not good but I believe that Laissez-faire means anything goes.. picked it up on CDVF. Thanks.-Dakota t e 17:44, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

Hi, Dakota. I already reverted the vandalism; it was this edit that was the problem. Thanks for checking out the article! --William Pietri 17:47, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

Warning to 209.184.165.20

I haven't edited any page today apart from the Andkon Delete page. Please provide evidence and stop attacking me. 209.184.165.20 00:17, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

I've responded on your user page. No attack was meant; as you can see from my edit history, I've reverted a number of vandalism edits and, as per Wikipedia procedures, given the same warning. The edit in question was a while back, so perhaps the message was for somebody else using that IP. --William Pietri 02:14, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

Andkon AfD

Hi... just wanted to thank you for trying to respectfully explain things to him/them, you did a good job. I gave up, since they really seem to have no interest whatsoever in learning about Wikipedia's policies and just want to complain/rebut/argue tirelessly. --W.marsh 23:53, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. Having been a pain in the ass in my youth, I still have some dues to pay. Plus, in my professional life I coach software developers, and I often find that the initially most intransigent, once convinced, will become equally dedicated at making things better. I don't seem to have been able to reach Andkon on this pass, but perhaps one day... --William Pietri 00:27, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

Thank you!

Great work! Trollderella 03:10, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

Great work!

Well done on the AFD rewrite you notified me of. My vote is now an unconditional keep. - Mgm|(talk) 09:36, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

Good job William on the rewrite. *drew 10:24, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

Not vandalism

I don't think this edit was vandalism. "Puto" is a kind of snack food native to the Philippines. I've un-reverted it. Just letting you know... Coffee 15:08, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for catching that, Coffee! I mistook it for a Spanish word and thought it a snide comment on the virtue of Calasians. My mistake. --William Pietri 16:22, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

About [[ACQ-Kingdom Broadcasting Network]: it's not a media network I've heard of, so I don't personally know how notable it is. But if it's broadcast in all those cities, I'd say it's notable enough to have its own article. Based on this, "Tahanan sa Kaharian" and "Batang Kaharian" are Tagalog program titles... translating to something like "Home in the Kingdom" and "Kids of the Kingdom". :) Coffee 13:37, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

merging schools

Thanks for the comment on the merging. Please continue. I have looked at all these arguments for not merging and I personally think they are baseless. I just want to get them all in place so we can deconstruct the arguments in a constructive way. One obvious contradiction in the arguments against merger is the worry that district lists are too large with say, 200 schools, yet they endorse catagories such as Category:High_schools_in_California. Ironically the most useful links in that category are the lists such as List of high schools in Orange County, California.

I think you are making some excellent, constructive comments on the school page expecially your last proposal. So far I have seen very few of the users who are active participatants in the school Afd's make comments. those that have shown up seem to be discouraged. Hopefully if we don't let this drop they will see that a truce and real discussion has to happen to stop the atrocious waste of time that is currently sapping energy from constructive editing. i know for a fact that I have wasted too much time here. i think that is one of the main reason why the obstructionists win since people don't wish to waste time. David D. (Talk) 22:24, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, David! I appreciate the kind words, as I'm sure trying hard. Personally, I don't have very strong opinions about schools either way, but I'm shocked at the open acrimony. Perhaps I'll end up as discouraged as everybody else, but for now I'm going to make a go of finding some constructive way forward. --William Pietri 22:31, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

Rajput/Prithivraj Chauhan

William,

Why did you revert my edit on some wiki pages? If you look at this link you will see the article was created with a reference from 61 books.

Shivraj Singh 03:26, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

Hi, Shivraj. Your name's not familiar to me, and I couldn't find any edits I made to that page. Could you let me know what you're referring to? --William Pietri 04:29, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

Simon Wessely

I loved your comment re the tiger in the museum :-) In fact I stole it and quoted it on my user page. - Just zis  Guy, you know? [T]/[C] (W) AfD? 19:16, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Steal away! I'm flattered. Many thanks for your patient work trying to sort that page out. Also, apologies for plopping my oversized epistle on the talk page, but I wanted to be sure to catch the participants. Feel free to move or nix it when it gets in the way there. --William Pietri 19:34, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
No, it's good. They won't accept it from anyone who's edited the page (we are all propagandists for Wessely, after all), maybe they'll accept it from you. They are a bit clueless in Wiki terms - one that did not get banned emailed Jimbo, cc me, to ask why he'd been blocked. He hasn't, according to the blocklist, but the page is locked. - Just zis  Guy, you know? [T]/[C] (W) AfD? 22:55, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

tagalog help

Sorry mate, but I am not from that area (Dvao). I don't know anything about the station and the programs you told me.

No problem! Another editor has helped me sort it out. Thanks for checking thing out! William Pietri 20:03, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
