Influence edit

Some have said that Pinkerton was used as the model for the inspiration of the emo subgenre of the end of 1990's. But this isn't true. Emo was already established earlier by other bands such as The Get Up Kids[1], or those which followed in the screamo wave of the 2000's. However, Pinkerton doesn't have anything in common with the style or esthetics developed in the 1980's by the pioneers of emo, if it is not that Pinkerton is a highly emotional album, intimate, whose recurring topics are the lost love, the distance, insulation and sexual frustration, writing from the point of view of the narrator. Although the limit between story-telling and reality is difficult to trace as in the majority of the works written with “I”, it is plausible to believe that several of the parts of Pinkerton are very stuck to lived realities and feelings felt by Rivers Cuomo.

Cuomo had tried to dissociate himself from the album in the years following its release. After nearly 5 years of absence from recording, Weezer returned in spring 2001 with a third album, stripped of any too personal matter, which caused, and always causes several years later, much of disappointment at several fans of the group, for which Pinkerton reaches a cult status of album worship. Rivers Cuomo already qualified Pinkerton of being a “hideous” album and “painful error being produced in front of hundreds of thousands of people”.

Despite the fact that in the past, Cuomo had spoken about his disgust and embarrassment for the album [2]. He has come to terms with it. On the Howard Stern Show, he called the album "one of the fan's favorites, and we're really proud of it". Pinkerton songs have now been included into concerts. On Make Believe, Cuomo began writing from a more personal state-of-mind similar to that of Pinkerton.

This album is seen as the "birth" of emo, when in reality emo was started in the 1980's. Which was years earlier. This album can be seen as the first popular emotional album. However this album is very influential to the latter-day emotional bands of today such as Dashboard Confessional, the Used and Taking Back Sunday [3].

This album has also been compared to the Beach Boys album, Pet Sounds which is considered one of the most influential albums of all time. [4], [5]. It is compared on the grounds that "both albums were not commercially successful and dismissed by fans of the bands' earlier works. After many years, both albums have grown in stature to the point where they're considered each band's best album."

Pinkerton page edit

Hi there, just wanted to lend my support in the expansion of the Pinkerton page. It's one of my favourite albums so if there's anything I can do with the page, copyediting or research or something, just give me a shout. M A Mason 17:49, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Deletion proposals edit

I have placed proposed deletion templates on some of the pages you created for individual songs from the Weezer album Make Believe. I feel that they fail to meet Wikipedia's notability guideline, based on the idea that "a topic is notable if it has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, reliable published works, whose sources are independent of the subject itself." If you disagree with these proposals you may remove the templates from the pages, at which point there would likely be a deletion debate at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks for creating articles (I know it's a lot of work) and let me know if you have any questions about this or anything else! Dekimasuが... 16:28, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have removed the proposed deletion tags per your objections and replied to you on my talk page. Please reply to me again there when you get a chance. Dekimasuが... 05:36, 25 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:VideoCaptureDevice.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:VideoCaptureDevice.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 19:26, 22 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Weezer-pinkerton-backcover.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Weezer-pinkerton-backcover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
