Public school

edit

Only English people and the Anglified use the term "public school" to refer to a private school in Scotland. The majority do not, traditionally. It's a nonsensical phrase anyway, when one views how it is used.--MacRusgail (talk) 18:48, 23 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I appreciate your point, however, this is not a simple issue of definitions. If you have any real interest in the school or any attachment to it, you would know the true history of this fine institution. I would urge you to read Robert Phillips, 'A Keen Wind Blows', The History of Fettes. In that, you will find that the school was founded as, and based on, a traditional English Public School. Scotland should be proud that they possesses one of the great Public Schools in the UK. Why don't you leave the "editing" to the school and to those who have a true understanding of the place.

It certainly is an English school, in the same sense that Americans have their own schools outside the United States. The name of the writer, by the way, is Robert PHILP, not Phillips. As with all books commissioned by their subject, it is a bit of a whitewash. If you read "Fifty Years of Fettes College" (some title like that) for example, you can read about how people in Edinburgh - included an MP - resented this alien implant. And this is coming from a book written by former pupils! In Scotland, we use public school in its proper sense, i.e. not a fee paying school. We leave that to our neighbouring country.--MacRusgail (talk) 17:23, 17 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Conflict of Interest

edit

It would appear that you are Justin Melck. While you probably know more about yourself than anyone else, autobiography is against wikipedia's "conflict of interest" policies.--MacRusgail (talk) 17:25, 17 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

As it transpires I am not! I am just a fan, therefore, I have every right to update his page. That is all.
