There are several automated tools that screen incoming edits, such as Wikipedia:Huggle, or just quick scans of the recent changes log. With practice, it's simple to discern bad edits. The warnings are done with an automated tool called Twinkle. There are also edit filters which work directly from Wikipedia's servers that tag or disallow certain kinds of edits. Probably a doze3n or more administrators and a hundred or more regular editors are patrolling edits at this time of day. Acroterion _(talk) 17:30, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
